'Marjoram' a detached, single storey, rural 200-year-old farm cottage, modernised, but retaining much of the original character. Available Spring to Autumn, fully furnished & equipped for 6/8 people. Sun room with views of the garden and pond. Oak beamed sitting room with wood burning fire, TV with Sky BBC, video, DVD, CD player. Mezzanine floor with sofa bed. New fitted kitchen with table and chairs, wood burning oven, gas hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, double doors to garden. Utility room with washing machine, storage shelves. Shower room with toilet. 3 bedrooms (1double 2 twin) with built in wardrobes. Pillows & duvets supplied. Bathroom with corner bath, 2 washbasins and walk in shower. Separate toilet. Electric heating. The enclosed mature, secluded garden with spa pool surrounds the cottage, ideal for relaxing or playing games in, garden furniture, barbecue supplied as well as 6 bikes, badminton, and basketball net and stand, table tennis & parking.

La Carte is a small hamlet about 3KM from Vasles with amenities for day-to-day needs, including a small supermarket, boulangerie, tabac/bar, restaurant and bank. The larger towns of Parthenay (19 km) is well worth a visit, Poitiers (27km) with main line railway station, airport with flights from Stansted is a 30 minutes drive from the cottage. Marjoram is the perfect base for relaxing, walking, cycling, bird watching, fishing and swimming in the nearby lake with sandy beach at Ayron (15 minutes drive). There are many interesting and varied places to visit, all within easy reach. Futuroscope (Poitiers) to the East, the peaceful canals and ancient waterways of the Marais Poitevan to the west near Niort, and the interesting towns of Cognac and Limoges to the south. The Atlantic coastline with sandy beaches and the picturesque harbour of La Rochelle are within easy driving distance approximately 1 1/2 hrs drive. Golf available at Chateau des Forges only 10 minutes away, with out door pool.

  • A £100 security deposit is taken for a weeks booking, £200 for two weeks subject to no reductions or disputes it will be returned within two weeks of the end of the rentail period.There will be an automatic reduction of £100 if additional oils are inserted in the Spa,resulting in the need to change the water.
    An additional fee will be charged for spring and autumn lets for logs and electricity for heating and use of the spa.

The prefect rural retreat

My wife and I have been staying in French holiday cottages for over 20 years. This one is by far one of the best. It has character, is spotlessly clean, well-laid out, has a kitchen that is equipped with quality crockery and overall has everything one requires for a perfect, relaxing, peaceful holiday. After lazy days 'doing nothing' but enjoying the garden, the spa pool, the country walks and the occasional trip to one of the nearby supermarkets to replenish stocks it was a pleasure to prepare and eat our meals and then retire with our wine to the sun lounge or the settee and luxurious armchairs (in our experience such comfortable chairs are a rare find in property-lets).
The farmyard cats can be a bit of a nuisance especially if you follow someone who has fed them and allowed them into the house, but, after some rigorous re-training they can provide a bit of entertainment.
By the way the local hedgerow blackberries are delicious and with the cottage's apples make a delicious crumble dessert!
Did we love the place and its surroundings? First thing we did when we returned to England - make a booking for next year!

Lovely Cottage

My husband and I had a wonderful time in this lovely cottage. This cottage is very clean and cosy. The huge garden is a wonderful place to relax and to read books. The scenery offers many attractions, e.g. romanic churches. Two recommendations: a very good restaurant is in Menigoute (English spoken) and everyone who loves books should visit Montmorillon - the "village of the books" (also for English books).

Peaceful retreat

We spent a wonderful week at marjoram with my parents and two sons who both have difficulty walking. The journey was straight forward and the roads easy to negotiate. The cottage setting was breathtaking and we really enjoyed the garden (and hot tub). The cottage provided everything we needed and was very comfortable. It is situated in a convenient location and we enjoyed many days out to neighbouring towns, enjoying the markets and the architecture. Crocodile planet was a big hit as was futuroscope. We ate out a lot and the food was amazing. This holiday catered for all our needs and we hope to return and have recomended it to all our family and friends.

cat lovers holiday?

House as described in peaceful setting, but the web site does not state that there is no bed linen or towels, other than tea and hand provided so we had to go to supermarket as we had not read the booking form small print well enough.
The cats, 8 of them never left the deck and were difficult to keep out of the house. They expected to be fed and pestered us until we gave in. The property was not as clean as our previous one. Washbasins and fridge not up to standard.
Owner's Response: We cannot be held responsible if the party leader does not pass on information such as no bed linen.It is clearly stated on our own website and booking form,neither can we be held responsible for people signing forms without reading them,but we agree at present this information is not on Holiday-Rentals website,but will be inserted.

On our useful information sheet sent to every party leader,there is a local phone number for Carol (English) for any problems or emergencies which may be experienced at the cottage,there is also a copy in the cottage information book,had they phoned Carol she would have organized linen for them.
The wild cats can be a problem,4 Adults & 4 kittens treated firmly they soon learn not to pester you as we have experienced as we followed on from the Wells stay at our cottage.
We have spoken to Carol our cleaner who states that the cottage was clean for the Well's party and was upset by the remarks.
Washbasin and fridge not up to standard what does this remark refer to.
