The cottage, in the sunny climate of the Vendee - is a small detached charming, 200 year old stone cottage situated in a peaceful rural setting on the edge of the village, overlooking farmland. The cottage (along with the owners bungalow) is set in half acre of landscaped gardens and orchard and has a private swimming pool (fenced for security). The beamed cottage has been modernized but keeping all the original rustic features and is 20 minutes from La Rochelle and a little further to the beaches. Within walking distance is an excellent restaurant, and 5 minute drive to local shops. The surrounding area is very suitable for walking and cycling (adult bikes can be supplied), fishing, boating, bird watching and well situated for sightseeing and local activities.

The cottage is situated in a peaceful rural setting in the sunny climate of the vendee which boasts sunshine hours equal to the Mediterranean. We are just north of La Rochelle and 20 min from the Atlantic coast, with miles of safe sandy beaches. La Rochelle is one of Frances most attractive ports leading to the island of ' ile de re '. The village of Coulon in the Marais 'Green Venice' is categorised as one of the most beautiful villages in France, with its maze of small canals for exploration whether by boat, bicycle, or walking. Nearby La Tranche sur Mer is a paradise for surfers and windsurfers. There are many choices of local vineyards where you can sample their wine and buy local delicacies. A little further and you can visit Futurscope and the Cognac region. The Vendee is renowned for its diverse interests from churches and abbeys to marshes that attract unusual flora and fauna. For nature lovers there are many marked footpaths and signposted bicycle routes to explore.

Notes: All linen and towels are provided (but no beach towels) and there is a change of linen provided each Saturday. The cottage has its own lawn area with over half an acre where we put up a gazebo as a sunshade for the outside eating area with table and chairs. The swimming pool is fenced and gated for safety reasons, suitable for children over 6.

Sightseeing: The cottage is set in a beautiful and quiet location but is well placed for easy reach of sandy beaches, pretty villages, or exploring La Rochelle and nearby' ile de re ' The 'Green Venice ' wet marsh area with its maze of canals and lovely villages. The local large historical , market, towns of Lucon and Fontenay Le Comte . The forest and lakes of Mervant. The area is criss crossed with rivers and canals and there is an abundance of flora and fauna . The Vendee is renowned for its diverse interests from churches and abbeys to museums and zoos. Puy- du- Fou is regarded as the greatest sound and light show in Europe with 2000 participants and 12000 spectators. It is a unique experience and is about 1.5 hours away from us.

Activities: Hire a boat on the tranquil ' Marais Poitovin ' a mysterious marshland (Green Venice) about 20min from us. Some of the best fishing in France within minutes of the cottage. (permit necessary) We can provide adult bicycles for exploring locally or there are many marked walking /cycling routes. The area is well known for its abundance of excellent fish restaurants and wine tasting at local vineyards. Visit the local towns on market days to get a 'feel' of the area. Visit the miles of golden sandy beaches (nearest 30min away by car) La Faute sur Mer . Enjoy the local marinas` at either Marans or La Rochelle . Boat trips to the islands off La Rochelle. La Rochelle itself is full of places to visit from the aquarium to its large Sunday market at La Pallice. Dotted around the area are various wild life sanctuaries . Or one can simply enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the garden and pool.

Travel, how to get to us: BY CAR ; Brittany Ferries - Portsmouth to St Malo daily. St Malo is 285 kms and approx 3.5 hours drive, or Portsmouth to Caen daily (400km) and approx 5 hours drive. Portsmouth to Cherbourg (430km) approx 5 hours drive. FLIGHTS; Daily flights from Gatwick to Nantes with Air France and B.A. Nantes to us is approx 1.25 hours drive. Ryan Air daily flights from Stanstead to La Rochelle or in season flights by Flybe from Southampton to La Rochelle. La Rochelle airport is 20 min drive from us.
