Located in the lovely rolling countryside of the Vendée Bocage this attractive, traditional gîte is superbly situated being central to La Rochelle/West coast beaches, Poitiers, Puy du Fou and Venise Verte. The cottage comprises one double bedded room and one twin bedded room (low head height) for which a third bed is available. Lounge-diner with sofa, easy chairs, dining table & chairs, radio/CD/cassette player, games & books. Bathroom with a 'sabot' bath/shower and separate toilet with wash-hand basin. Kitchen with gas cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, ample crockery, cutlery and cookware. (Service washes available). The cottage is attached to the main house and, at the front faces onto the old farm courtyard, and at the rear, the kitchen door opens straight onto the large level garden with table/chairs, sunlongers, barbeque etc. Private off-road parking along side gîte. Garden toys such as paddling pool and Little Tykes car are available on request.

Location: Vendee in France

Nearest Airport: Nantes at 105 Kilometres
Nearest Ferry: St Malo at 350 Kilometres
Nearest Beach: beach at 70.0 Kilometres

The small hamlet of La Viollière is surrounded by gentle rolling countryside made up of fields and small woods. A very rural retreat but easy to find and well connected for easy exploring. A tranquil environment in which to relax for adults and with plenty of space and lots to do for families. Our nearest village, Breuil Barret (2kms), has a restaurant/bar and a good boulangerie-épicerie, a pretty old church, tennis court and two hairdressers! The nearby town of La Châtaigneraie (6kms) offers two supermarkets, bank, bars & restaurants and the normal complement of small shops. It has a very good outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. The local leisure lake is just a few minutes away and is very popular for picnics and walks. It has a children's play area and fishing permits are available. A café/bar opens in high season and there is a small swimming pool adjacent which is very popular with children. Pedaloes and crazy golf available.

Nearby: The lovely Mervent/Vouvant area is just ten minutes drive. Mervent forest is a haven for walkers and nature lovers yet has various interesting attractions hidden away such as a tree top adventure park, Nautique centre with bicycle hire too, small, attractive zoo, large leisure park with bumper boats, little train, bouncy castles for children and adults!. Just to the south of the forest is a lovely area swimming area with man-made beach, café and picnic tables, boules area - offers the chance of lake swimming in beautiful surroundings.

Around & About: There are many villages and attractions to explore: chateaux, churches, forests, lakes for swimming and boating, animal parks, horse-riding and bicycling - including nearby access onto the round Vendée cycle path, small family vineyards with tastings and several weekly markets. Also, surprisingly perhaps for this unspoilt rural area, there are various activities for the more adventurous just a few minutes away by car. Microlite 'baptism' flights, go-karting, tree-top assault course, even bungy jumping! For keen fishermen, the Pescalis international fishing centre is just 10 minutes away.

Further Afield: The canals of the 'Venise Verte' and the famous Puy du Fou historical park are both about 45 minutes away. It is just 1h 15 mins to La Rochelle, Ile de Ré and various beach resorts. The Loire Valley is about an hour and a half's drive, the same for Poitiers with Futuroscope, high-tech museum of the moving image! There really is something for everyone and if you don't fancy driving, just doze in the garden with a glass of wine!
