Superb Charentais house & gite with pool and ten minutes from the beach
La Blanchetterie is a beautiful charentais farmhouse and gite set in the quiet village of Chenac, facing south with fantastic views of the Gironde estuary and just 10 minutes from the nearest beach. Complete with pool, the property is set in an acre of garden, surrounded by vineyards and fields of sunflowers. The area benefits from a micro-climate making it one of the sunniest parts of France, enjoying 2700 hours of wonderful sunshine a year. The owners, Katie and Mike Harrington, live at the property in a converted barn behind the house and are at hand to answer any questions, and maybe take you on a tour of a working vineyard for those who are keen to do a bit of tasting.

Built in around 1900, the house has been decorated to a high standard and is very spacious. Downstairs is a big open plan well-equipped kitchen and dining room with a very large living room next door with french doors out to the garden and pool. Upstairs there are two double rooms and one twin all with fabulous views. There is a large family bathroom with bath and walk-in shower.

Chenac is situated in a great location with something for everyone. There are lovely sandy beaches close by with a variety of water sports, a selection of great golf courses at Saintes, Royan, Cognac and La Rochelle, walking, cycling and of course endless chances to sample the wines and cognac of the region. Of course should you wish to you can simply laze about by the pool and enjoy the peace. There is a very good shop in the next village less than 1km away which sells all the basics and fresh bread and croissants. There are a variety of larger supermarkets all in easy reach. You can sample the local cuisine at a variety of restaurants, the closest in the pretty ports of Mortagne and Les Monards. Each local town has a weekly market selling lots of fantastic local produce.

What a fantastic week - weather brilliant (too hot sometimes, if that is possible). Thanks Katie and Mike for sharing your home with us - it is lovely.
What a fantastic two weeks. The weather has been great. The kids have spent most of the holiday in the pool. Cognac, the zoo, La Rochelle all well worth a visit. The most enjoyable part has been the excellent bike rides to Talmont, Mortagne and Port Maubert. Finally a very big thank you to Mike and Katie who have been excellent hosts.
We have had a great time. We particularly enjoyed Katie cooking us a meal, Saintes, Le Chateua des Enigmes for the kids, Cozes market, bike ride to Mortagnes.
We had a really nice time again. The weather has been great and its been fun playing with Holly and Stevie. Katies cooking is really yummy!
