Le Tilleul (The Lime Tree) is a restored farmhouse with private pool that sleeps up to eight people. It is located in a small cluster of buildings in peaceful countryside 3km from the small market town of Chalais in Charente, near the Dordogne border & under 2 hrs from Bordeaux. The comfortably furnished self-catering villa rental accommodation comprises 2 double bedrooms with ensuite shower/bathrooms, 1 twin bedroom with shower upstairs and a further twin bedroom with ensuite shower room on the ground floor. There is an enormous lounge with separate dining area, a fully equipped farmhouse kitchen (dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave) and a separate utility room with washing machine. There are log fires and electric heaters for the winter. Outside is a dining area & patio with lovely views over the surrounding countryside, a barbecue & a large private pool (12m by 6m). The large garden provides a lovely play area for children & is shaded by a large lime tree that gives the house its name.

Location: Charente in France

Nearest Airport: Bordeaux at 90 Kilometres
Nearest Ferry: Caen at 510 Kilometres
Nearest Train: Chalais at 3 Kilometres

Set in farmland surrounded by fields of sunflower and maize, Le Tilleul is situated in a small hamlet outside the village of St Quentin-de-Chalais on the Charente/Dordogne border. The nearest town, Chalais, is about 3 km away. This is a small market town with a railway station and a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a market every Monday. There are many countryside walks in the locality which allow you to explore the area, and during the summer months enjoy tastings of the locally produced wines, Pineau and Cognacs. About 8 km away is the beautiful historic village of Aubeterre, which has a monolithic church, craft shops and a pretty square with restaurants. There is a river beach at Aubeterre and other options for outdoor activities in the area include walking, horseriding, canoeing and a small water park. There is also easy access to Bordeaux, Angouleme, St Emilion, Riberac, Perigueux, La Rochelle, Cognac and the Dordogne for day trips.

Notes: There is a twin bedroom downstairs with an en-suite shower room with toilet, which is suitable for people with limited mobility. Upstairs there is one double bedroom with an ensuite shower room with toilet and a twin bedroom with an en-suite shower & sink but no toilet. The other upstairs bedroom has a king size bed and a door into the bathroom. This bathroom is also accessible from the upstairs landing and it has a separate shower cubicle, double basins but no toilet in it. There is a separate toilet upstairs and another downstairs. In addition to the large dining area, the kitchen also has a table, which seats 6-8 for less formal meals. There are enclosed log fires in the living room and kitchen as well as electric heaters for use in winter. There is a small television with DVD player which can receive British free view channels. There are a large number of plastic garden chairs and two garden tables allowing a large party to eat outside. There are four pool loungers as well

Getting there: In addition to Bordeaux, there are a range of airports within 2 hours drive to which low cost arilines fly. The nearest is Bergerac but Poitiers, Limoge and La Rochelle are all in easy reach.

I had a very nice stay at the house the pool was really well maintained as was the house its self. I felt well informed on the events happening around the area. The Supermarket is big and affordable and only 5 mins away by car. Generally i found the locals to be friendly and helpful on many occasions when needing direction to certain places e.g Banks, Restaurants and Gift shops all in all i would defiantly go back.
