'Chez les Rois'or 'Home of the Kings' is a very large property dating back to 1842. Situated in the Charentaise countryside, in five acres of grounds and gardens the Farmhouse and the Barn form part of the courtyard setting and at the height of summer the whole of the property is surrounded by maize, vines and sunflowers. The Farmhouse has its own private pool and garden. We also have a communal pool where you can join us for pool side drinks. Both pools are situated in enclosed areas with locked gates in accordance with French law. In the grounds we have swings, slides, badminton, a boules pitch and bikes to the discover the surrounding countryside. Chez les Rois also has the added luxury of a jacuzzi and a sauna, and for those business minded people we have broadband Internet access. Both the Farmhouse & the Barn have been tastefully renovated to a high standard offering comfortable accommodation for 18 adults or 2 or 3 families. Each house has its own kitchen and dining areas. However, the kitchen in the Farmhouse is quite large with enough space for 2 to 3 cooks to work in harmony. There are lots of work surfaces, cupboard space, an island unit with a built in hob, large Italian cooker and an American fridge/freezer that dispenses ice/water - a must in summer. The cupboards contain a large supply of crockery, glasses and utensils for every day use. At the rear of the Farmhouse is a huge room which was originally the “Chais”; This has been completely renovated to offer a lounge /dining area for 20 people. Large comfortable sofas with antique furniture, the 'buffet' and the 'argentier' contain a selection of quality glass wear and crockery so everyone can dine in style. There is a CD player, large plasma screen TV, and a DVD player with lots of DVD to choose from

Notes to the rental rates

• Chez les Rois is a wonderful setting for a family reunion, a house party with friends or two or three families wishing to holiday together. If you are celebrating a birthday, reunion,anniversary, Christmas or even a wedding your special event can be professionally catered for. Or perhaps you would like to be a little indulgent and a have a French chef for the entire duration of your stay!
  If your party is 10 people or less than please enquire about the rates for just for the Farmhouse . We are more than happy to accommodate you with your request .
  
• * Our pools are only available during May, June, July, August and September. Our Leisure Facilities: Jacuzzi and sauna are available from May till the end of October.
  Central heating is available in both houses from November through to April.
  Logs will also be supplied should you so wish.
  
• For one or two week holidays our changeover day is Saturday. In the summer months the letting period commences on Saturday at 4pm (day of arrival) and we strongly request that you vacate the property before 10 am (day of departure) to facilitate cleaning arrangements. Bed linen, bathroom towels and towels for the pool are included in the price. If you are travelling with young children ask about our 'Baby and Toddler Pack It includes various items including 2 cots, cot bedding,3 highchairs, playpen, car seat(for toddler),pushchair(9kg/18kg),potty, toilet training seat and baby bath. All of the above are free of charge just request at the time of booking.
  Welcome Pack on arrival includes bread, wine, cheese, pate, eggs, fruit bowl, soft drinks, tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a few essentials.

All these areas and both the large pools are illuminated at night . The Jacuzzi can seat 5/6 people and is a great way to relax .The sauna is large enough for two people lying down or four people sitting. There is also a hydro shower. In the gardens we have swings, a slide, trampoline, and lots of room to play football, volley ball ,boules or badminton etc. We have several bikes that are at your disposal to explore the surrounding countryside or to visit the local pineau producer. You might want to walk back after the tasting! Feel free to wander around the grounds see the sheep and Agadir our horse. There’s also a herb garden, vegetable garden and various fruit trees with an abundance of fruit dependant on the season you come to Chez les Rois

Discover the real France

The Sud Charente with its gentle, undulating countryside covered in vines, sunflowers and picturesque villages. Enjoy the flavour of its produce -Pineau des Charente(a delicious blend of wine and cognac), charentaise melon, goats cheese, pate, saucissons, foie gras, duck and cognac. You will find all these on the menus at inexpensive restaurants in the area. Or perhaps you would like to experience the joy of buying local produce from one of the country markets of Chalais, Barbezieux, Riberac or Rouillac. The property is ideally situated for this and no worries for serious chefs our kitchen is well equipped. There are many places to visit whilst here on holiday. Aubeterre considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in France with its monolithic church. Charming St Emilion with its narrow, cobbled streets or the Medieval village of Sarlat. Take a trip to the coast to the quaint fishing village of Talmont and the caves at Meschers or visit the ile d'Oléron and see Fort Bouyard.

Activities and events in the surrounding area

See the countryside from a different view point......on horse back.A three hour hack meandering through sun drenched maize and sunflower fields. You'll appreciate the jacuzzi when you get back! Canoeing...29 km for the energetic inclined or a leisurely 8kms down the River Dronne followed by lunch at a local restaurant.Visit the Chateaux in Bordeaux area on bike. There are various circuits you can take and sample the wine as you go!There are numerous events taking place over the summer period from June to the end of September. They include the Blues Festival at Cognac, the European Hot Air balloon Championships when over 70 hot air balloons take off from local fields, the International Festival of Dance and Music at Confolens, International Show Jumping at Chalais, Rally Driving around the ramparts at Angouleme, Brocantes, Bric a Bracs and the 'Fete de Vendages', when local villages celebrate the harvesting of the grape.
