Chez Grimaud is a renovated detached farmhouse which formed part of a long established and still working crop farm and Cognac producer. Chez Grimaud is situated between Chalais and Barbezieux and in summer is surrounded by fields of vines and sunflowers which lie amidst the rolling woodlands of the Charente. The property is furnished adequately for holiday needs. There is a private outdoor pool with the house.

Further details: Chez Grimaud is served by air from Bordeaux airport 55m south, Bergerac and Poitiers, and by rail from Angouleme 30m north. It is well placed to visit the Dordogne valley and close to the country market towns of Chalais, Riberac and Perigueux. There are many countryside walks in the locality which allow you to explore the vineyards, and during the summer months enjoy tastings of the locally produced wines, Pineau and Cognacs. The Atlantic coastal resort of Royan lies 50m to the west, and for the more adventurous a three hour drive will take you to the Spanish border.

This was a great place to stay , the lay out particularly suitable for 2 separate families (which we were)
in terms of sleeping arrangements.
It was indeed spacious with a huge cool sitting room and clean modern kitchen-dining area .The pool was excellent and well maintained. There are some lovely long views over the valley from the garden and apart from the odd bit of noisy farm machinery near by -generally peaceful.
I would definitely recommend this house for a holiday for a large family or 2 separate groups. Only reservation-not a lot to do for active children & teenagers apart from the pool so take some inflatables and games & sports equipment with you !

We have stayed at Chez Grimaud twice now, and love its beautiful location amongst the rolling hills covered in sunflowers and vines. Its a great spot for BBQs and relaxing by the pool, or for exploring the local countryside with its attractive towns and villages. Further afield you have Angouleme and the whole Cognac region, or some nice sandy beaches within 60-90 mins drive.

The house is well equipped for family use, with plenty of space for a comfortable stay. The decor is functional rather than lavish, but we have tended to live outdoors whenever possible, so this hasn't been an issue. It's worked well with kids, with plenty of space to go exploring in safety in the nearby fields and tracks, or ride around on bikes.

The location is fairly remote, so a car is essential, but there's a baker a few minutes drive down the road, and supermarkets in the closest main towns.

We have rented various properties in France in the past 14 years and this was definitely one of the best for value for money. The house was huge and would easily accommodate two families. The furniture was comfortable and clean. The pool was superb and maintained on a regular basis by an unobtrusive caretaker. Henry (the owner) couldn't have been more helpful, even booking a table for us at the local chateaux before we arrived! There are plenty of things to do with children in the surrounding area (Aqualand near Bordeaux is a must!!) If you want a property where the owners pop in only if you need them, plenty of room, a deep, spacious pool, a large garden for the children and value for money (and you don't mind the odd cobweb, anyone would think this is rural France!) this property ticks all of those boxes and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Lovely old farmhouse in tranquil rural area. Surrounded by fields of sunflowers so very pretty. We enjoyed river kayaking, local markets and pony treking for the kids. Nice big kitchen with dishwasher, microwave etc. Kids swam in the pool every day.

Beautiful but tired

This is a really lovely property, however, it did not live up to expectations inside. The property had no towels even though it asked for them not to be used in pool area, we had to buy some. The beds were uncomfortable and kept falling apart as you slept and one of them had a matress that was not made for it and kept sliding off. No television although it did say it had sky? There were cobwebs everywhere and we started our holiday cleaning it thoroughly. The area is fantastic with a good supermarket 10 mins away and Royan only 45mins to an hours drive. An ideal location for complete rest and relaxation. We did not see the owners at all. If it was refurbished to a better standard i would have no problem recommending it.
