Lacanau holiday villa "Chalet Rousseau" in Carreyre

Chalet Rousseau provided a wonderful 'home' for us this summer. We travelled down with two other families (six adults and eight children) - the accommodation was first class with room to spare.

The house is set in a quite residential area with beautifully kept gardens and a fabulous pool that was extremely well used! Although the weather was unseasonably poor, the house offered a great base with many creature comforts and plenty of things to keep the children happy.

As far as the location is concerned, it couldn't be better. The house overlooks the lake and it is only a short drive to Lacanau Ocean and a vast expanse of beach. Having said that, we spent the majority of our time at the lake, which offers a range of watersport activities in a very safe environment. The surrounding area is very flat with vast expanses of woodland that is great for cycling, walking and jogging. We certainly had an action packed couple of weeks!

Lacanau proved to be a great place for a family holiday and both Chalet Rousseau and James (who is the consummate landlord) played an integral part in making our time there truly memorable.

What can I say about our 2 week stay in Lacanau, other than it was was probably the best family holiday we have had to date. There was plenty to do away from the house, 5mins to the lake, 10mins to the beach and about 40mins into Bordeaux. With all the things we had to do, we still found it very hard to leave the house. Our children spent on average about 8 hours a day in the pool even on the cooler days due to the pool being heated to about 29º. It was a great comfort to us that the pool was well secured, our 4 year old can swim but it meant she couldn't gain access to the pool when she managed to escape us. The house has a fantastic feel, very warm and welcoming. The children claimed the bottom floor with the bunks and play room, which gave them there freedom and us some peace & quiet! Although there was only 5 in our group the house could easily sleep 15+ comfortably. The grounds along with the pool are immaculately kept, with a great view over the lake. The owner James was fantastic, on call for any problems/questions and full of information on what was good to do in the area. Finally, any family/group looking for a fantastic relaxing holiday you would be hard pressed to find a better house!!
