Our nearby town (2kms), Chateauneuf sur Sarthe, is an unspoilt, country village in the cradle of Anjou, ancient home of the Plantagenets. Angers, 25kms away, is a lovely, medieval town of 250,000 people with loads of cafes, restaurants, museums and shops.

Anjou in the Loire Valley is the home of the magnificent chateaux of the Kings of France -- easily accessible, visit Chateau d'Angers, Chateau Plessis-bourre, Montgeoffroy, Chateau Serrant, Brissac, Chinon, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Usse, Chateau Sache (Balzac's house), Langeais and the stunning Abbey at Fontevraud. Also, Chenonceau, Blois, Amboise, Chambord, Cheverny and many more.

'In any other country, the château would be a tourist attraction in itself... We stayed in the stylishly converted guard's houses in the grounds, where the children spent their evenings playing with an army of kittens while the adults barbecued and drank local wine. It was also an excellent base to explore the
nearby villages, Angers and the Loire Valley just beyond it.'
