Les Tilleuls is a lovely old Charentaise farmhouse and distillery set in 3 acres of meadowland surrounded by rolling hills and cognac vineyards, ideal for holidays. The old barn has been renovated to provide a spacious 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom self catering gite. The ancient cognac distillery, which still retains the original alembic, has been converted into a cosy 2 bedroom gite. Each gite has its own private patio area, access to the meadowland and stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Les Tilleuls is situated in the rural hamlet of Echebrune in the Charente Maritime region of south west France renowned for its exceptionally sunny climate and is only 10 minutes from junction 36 of the A10 motorway making for easy access from northern ports and the airports at Bordeaux and La Rochelle. The 12 X 6m pool, with safety alarm, is surrounded by raised decking ideal for relaxing on a sunlounger or watching the children play.

La Grange is a spacious 4 bedroom gite and although completely modernised still retains the character of the original barn. The ground floor is open plan with a fully equipped kitchen, island unit with hob and oven and a breakfast bar opening on to the living area which has French windows on two sides, exposed beams, original stone walls and a dining area seating 10 people. There is also a shower room and toilet on this floor. Stairs lead to 4 bedrooms, 2 with double beds and 2 with twin beds and a bathroom with shower and toilet. A private patio area surrounds the property with access to the garden and meadowland and views over sunflower fields and vineyards. There is a 12 x 6m Pool, with safety alarm, in the grounds with raised decking ideal for lazing on a sun lounger or watching the children. Roman steps lead into the 1m depth end with a gentle slope to the 2m end.

Echebrune, with its beautiful hilltop XIth century church, is just 4 miles from the pretty town of Pons which, with its mediaeval keep and pilgrims hospital, provides supermarkets, banks, post office, bars and restaurants and a twice weekly market. Les Tilleuls is also conveniently situated for the old town of Cognac with the houses of Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin, etc offering fascinating guided tours of their cognac distilleries which, of course, include tastings! The Roman town of Saintes, with its Roman amphitheatre and bustling shopping centre, is also close by as are the beaches around the resort town of Royan. The pretty fishing ports of the Gironde estuary are within 30minutes. For children, visit the renowned zoo at La Palmyre, discover the Chateau des Enigmes at Pons or enjoy a day at the ‘Antilles de Jonzac’ an aqua playground of 10,000 sqm. Or just simply relax, explore the pretty surrounding villages and try Pineau des Charentes, the local aperitif.

Additional information about rental rates

  • A 25% deposit is required with the booking and the balance is payable 6 weeks prior to arrival.
    A £100 refundable damage/cleaning deposit is required with the final payment. Payment may be made in sterling or euros, exchange rate based on Holiday Rentals website. Changeover day is Saturday. For cleaning purposes we prefer that guests leave at 10am and arrive at 4pm but we can be flexible on these times.
    A 3 course meal can be provided on arrival at 15 euros per person including wine, please advise when booking.
  • Mid week bookings can be accommodated to take advantage of cheaper flights, ferries etc. Also short term stays can be arranged to meet your needs, please contact us for details.
    CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR is available at MID SEASON prices - please contact us for details.

Following on from our Summer holiday, we would like to thank Lesley and Derek for sharing their holiday home. We had a lovely familiy holiday in an ideal setting.

The accommodation was better than expected, everything had been thought of, especially the most welcome food parcel to help you settle into the first days of your holiday.

The setting could not be more ideal, very relaxing, perfect for lazy days around the pool.

Derek and Lesley were perfect hosts, thank you for a great holiday.

The perfect holiday

We spent 5 lovely weeks in Les Tileuls during summer 2009 and can honestly say it was our best holiday ever. The house was beautifully decorated and maintained with every facility you could require. The grounds were spacious and pretty with great facilities for our two children. The pool was fantastic, a pleasant temperature and generous size. We spent hours in it each day. The location is perfect, in a beautiful country village, 5 minutes drive from a large town with a good selection of supermarkets and restaurants. The house is approx. 30-40 minute drive from a large number of lovely sandy beaches and only 20-30min from some interesting historic towns like Cognac and Saintes. And the zoo at La Palmyre was well worth visiting. Our hosts made us feel so welcome and were always on hand for advice or help. We can't wait to return. I would recommend Les Tileuls for couples or families seeking a real taste of France in a scenic country location.

Echebrune was an ideal location for our May 2009 break - a sleepy country village close to the coast and historic towns of Pons, Cognac and Saintes.

Le Grange, our base, lived up to all our expectations - clean and spacious and well appointed - so important for a happy holiday.

The welcome from Lesley and Derek provided that element of customer service often found lacking and nothing was too much trouble - a meal on arrival, ordering fresh bread and croissants for delivery every morning, providing information about the locality and points of interest, also on hand for any queries.

This is a gite in which to relax - quiet, with the space to dream and roam and a pool just outside to cool off when the weather is hot and sunny.

This was a repeat visit, but we have also rented both gites, La Grange and Le Chai, with friends and having the interconnecting doors open wide Les Tilleuls offers even more space and variety of accommodation for larger groups.
