A beautiful Charentais stone-built farmhouse and adjacent stone bungalow surrounded by vineyards and fields of sunflowers, offering a relaxing French holiday. The area benefits from a micro-climate making it one of the sunniest parts of France, enjoying 2700 hours of sunshine a year with very little rainfall. Chantegeay also benefits from a private swimming pool of 10 metres x 5 metres, surrounded by a terrace and is all set in an enclosure of hedge and fencing with a poolside shower and plenty of lounger’s for soaking up the Charentais sun! Please note that the pool is for the exclusive use of the guests of Chantegeay, unless both properties are booked on a group booking. Both properties offer a BBQ and private patio -perfect for outside dining during those long summer nights! The gardens are mainly laid to grass, with a variety of established fruit trees. Conveniently located only a few minutes drive from junction 36 of the A10 motorway, yet offering a rural location surrounded by fields and vineyards. Chantegeay and Poppyfields are situated on the outskirts of the small village of Jazennes, a mere 5 minutes drive from the local town of Gemozac where you will find the nearest supermarket as well as local shops and cafes. The nearest beach is in Meschers, only a 25 minute drive to find a sandy cove enclosed by cliffs. The coastal resort of Royan is a 35 minute drive with its award winning beaches, fantastic restaurants and lively atmosphere. The famous Cognac region with its distilleries and vineyards is a short drive further inland and well worth a visit. The spa town of Jonzac is 30 minutes away, with its renowned spa and new indoor water complex for kid’s young and old. Saintes is situated on the banks of the Charente with its aqua ducts, Roman arenas, Gallo-Roman-Arc, Abbeys and Churches and holds the largest monthly fair of France.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We require a 50% deposit before a booking can be confirmed which is non-refundable. You are advised to take out a Travel Insurance Policy with a Cancellation clause, which may enable you to recover non-refundable monies. Lettings are from Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10 am.
    We also require a separate cheque for £100 as a refundable damage deposit, this will be returned to you after your departure.
  • Prices are per week, not per person, and include gas and electricity for cooking, lighting, hot and cold water.
    Linen and towels are provided, but we ask that you bring your own beach towels for use around the pool.

Notes: We do not provide a computer, but if you wish to bring your own Laptop, we have a wireless Broadband connection available. Please ask us for the password when you arrive. The shaded outside terrace is equipped with a brick BBQ, large table and chairs to seat 6 comfortably; there are plenty of sun lounger’s around the poolside provided. Children are welcome, but as this is a traditional Charentais farmhouse, the stairs are quite steep. We provide a safety gate if required. The main double bedroom is accessed through the twin room (not unusual in French houses!!)

Local Golfing Facilities: For those keen golfers, there are three Golf courses within 40 minutes of the property. The Golf de Royan is a truly exceptional course set in a unique landscape in the middle of a magnificent forest. A fantastic restaurant is set in a raised location overlooking the 18th green for an enjoyable 19th hole meal or drink!! The golf course at Saintes offers a challenging wooded course and provides spectacular views of Saintes and includes the remains of a Roman aquaduct. Located on the banks of the river Charente between Cognac and Jarnac, Cognac golf club has a gently-sloping course dotted with water hazards as it twists and turns between vineyards and woodland. Experienced golfers will enjoy playing holes 12, 15 and 17 which are particularly difficult.
