This 'away from it all' typically French family-friendly country house is near all the best beaches and sights of the Vendee. The property has been tastefully decorated and furnished whilst retaining its turn of the century charm. It has a large 3/4 acre private garden trimmed with grapevines and rosebushes, a private 4 x 8 metre swimming pool with sunbathing and dining patio decking, sun loungers and beach chairs. An outdoor cast iron stone bread oven is a feature Bar-B-Que. A new kitchen and living/dining room with its feature fireplace are particularly pretty and an impressive beamed hallway and traditional-style staircase lead to the first floor. Picturesque Mareuil sur Lay with its river frontage is nearby and superb Vendeen beaches are a 30 minute drive. The tranquil lake at Chateau Guibert is a short cycle ride away. Golf, at a magnificent course, is just a 15 min. drive, whilst Tennis is a mere 1 km. away. Shops, bars and fabulous restaurants are all within easy drive.

Chateau Guibert is 60 mins south of Nantes, 45 mins north of La Rochelle, 40 mins east of Les Sables D'Olonne. There is a superb choice of white sandy beaches (some with rockpools for children) backing onto wild dunes and cool pine forests. Les Sables D'Olonne is worth a visit with its 'Cote D'Azurish' facade, great beach, al fresco restaurants, shopping and fishing village. There is a small Zoo nearby, very popular with children. La Rochelle with its sailing port and Aquarium, stylish town centre and great cuisine is a popular destination. Over the bridge is Ile de Re, where cycling enthusiasts can encircle the perimeter of the island, stopping for lunch in St. Martin de Re, overlooking the picturesque harbour. The region offers a wealth of sightseeing attractions such as chateaux, museums, castles, vineyards, wine tasting tours, open-air markets, seaside resorts, botanical gardens, theme parks (Futuroscope in Poitiers, Le Puy de Fou). Golf, tennis, watersports are all close by.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Electricity, water, gas included. Heating 30 euros per week when required. Two separate cheques for 40% deposit of total holiday fee and security deposit of £200 required upon booking. Security deposit cheque returned after tenants' departure accordingly. Please provide ages of each child within the party in order to facilitate which beds are required i.e. cots. Beds made up upon arrival, bed linen and bathroom towels (excluding beach towels) included at no charge. Linen for babies in travel cots should be provided by tenants, as babies prefer their own special blankets, sheets, etc.
    A black binder is provided for tenants at the house containing all operational information regarding gas, electricity, water, etc.

Notes: The accommodation comprises: Ground floor - Open plan living/dining room/well equipped brand new fitted kitchen, large hallway doubling as useful play area for children, WC and utility room with washing machine which is great for clearing sand from swimsuits, hanging towels, etc. The double garage stores a multitude of children’s toys and garden games (boules, cricket, swing ball tennis, etc.) First floor - two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, one x-large bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds. Large bathroom with WC and separate shower room with sink. Large 3/4 acre lawned garden trimmed with grapevines. The swimming pool (8m x 4m depth 1m to 2m) is not heated nor fenced therefore parents are responsible for children at all times. Parking for 5 cars in driveway. Full central heating, wooden garden dining furniture, two canvas parasols, sunloungers, barbeque, two travel cots, two highchairs, all linen provided except beach towels.

Golf: Golf, at the magnificent 18-hole La Domangere Country Club in Nesmy is a mere 15 minute drive from the house. The French Open was played here in 1990. The course is very well maintained, with quite a bit of challenging water on the back 9! Rates are very reasonable and the owners are relaxed and welcome children/families to walk the course, or join you in your buggy! Lovely lunch offered al fresco outside the Clubhouse (19th hole).

This is a wonderful place for a family holiday. There were 7 of us altogether and we had loads of space.
The house is comfortable and well-equipped. It has a a real home feel; while it is attractively-decorated, it's not perfect and you don't have to watch the kids all the time making sure they don't break things or touch things which can stop you relaxing.
The pool is wonderful; our children spent most of each day in it. With that and the spacious garden, you don't have to leave the house to keep the kids entertained. We spent about half our time at the house and half out and about.
There are plenty of places to visit within 30 mins to an hour's drive and some lovely beaches.
We would happily go back to the house again and I would have no hesitation recommending it.

Holiday Country House

We had a very enjoyable stay in this delightful and well maintained holiday home. This cottage really takes you away from it all with truly idealic surroundings. The booking procedure and handover was very well organised helping to make this a stress-free holiday. Local amenities are within reach by car. We would strongly recommend a visit, we couldn't praise it enough.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Fabulous Holiday

We had the most fantastic holiday in August. The house was spacious (there were 4 adults and 4 children), clean, really pretty and comfortable - we had a thoroughly relaxing time. The pool was unheated but that was not a problem and the large gardens were great for golf practice and football. The area was very quiet so we had some lovely cycle rides with the children. We also went horse riding and played golf - both really good and not expensive. The local town of Mareuil sur Lay was lovely and good for food shopping. We visited La Rochelle (a great day out) and the beautiful beaches that were only a 1/2 hour drive away.
We would love to return to this property again in the future and have already recommended it to friends.
