A recently renovated, very spacious, five bedroom detached Charentaise house on the edge of a small hamlet, overlooking open countryside yet only 2 miles from the small market town of St Savinien. The property has been the subject of a total renovation over the past 4 years. It has been completely refitted throughout and has been comfortably equipped with quality furniture and appliances. Bed Linen and Towels are included in the rental price. The house comprises: a huge well fitted dining kitchen with seating for up to 12 guests, a massive central lounge with TV and seating for 7, and further large lounge with two settees seating 6. Utility room with washing machine and downstairs WC / Shower room. Upstairs - A huge master bedroom & en suite shower room. Three further double bedrooms, family bathroom and a small single bedroom. The house is located less than 3 miles from the pretty riverside market town of St Savinien which has a wide range of local shops, a regular market, a Supermarket and leisure activities including an outdoor pool, fishing and children's boating lake. The roman town of Saintes is some 15 miles south with a very comprehensive range of shopping, leisure activities and sightseeing including a Roman Amphitheatre. To the north the town of Rochefort is some 15 miles and LaRochelle about 40 miles. Beaches – the nearest family beach is at Saint Georges de Didonne about a 45 minute drive away. Riding school for all ages (English spoken) 2 miles. Quad biking 1 mile. The immediate surrounding countryside is superb for cycling with many quiet lanes to explore.

Additional information about rental rates

  • All bed linen, hand and bath towels are included for a maximum of 8 persons. A linen supplement charge for occupancy in excess of 8 persons of £5 per person per week, will be made for extra linen & towels.

    There is a local property manager on call in case of any problems / emergencies.

    Changeover day is Saturday. A welcome pack of essential supplies to get you through the first night is supplied.
    All bed linen and hand and bath Towels are included.
  • Pool Heating - The pool can be heated on request at an extra charge of £50 per week.

    This will heat the pool to about 30 deg. C. (We need about 5 days notice of this as it takes this long for the water to heat.).
  • WiFi Internet access is available at no extra charge.

    A heating charge will be required for rentals between November and April to cover logs and gas consumption.

The layout of the house makes it ideal for two families sharing as we have three double beds, 4 single beds and two temporary beds ( one is in the corner of the 'L' shaped master bedroom so is ideal for a young child). The other folding bed can be used in the second or third bedroom. We also have two travel cots which can be used in any room.

Notes: The house has two large lounges / sitting rooms. It was set this way so that one room could be used if adults want to get away from the kids! There is also a small study area with a desk and chair and an Apple Imac computer with Internet Access. TV in each lounge, One TV has a UK 'Free to Air' Satellite system - receives BBC, ITV, News & other channels, Video, DVD player, Radio and I-Trolley. I-Trolley? Yes its a trolley with a set of amplified speakers on it and a standard jack plug to plug your IPod or MP3 player into! We have a good selection of classic kids Disney / Pixar type DVD's & Video's and a range of classic and recent films for teenagers and Adults. There are also many holiday reading type books / novels in the house and a selection of board games. For out of season rentals the house is very warm and cozy in the Autumn, Winter and Spring months. It has a full gas central heating system and wood burners in the Kitchen and in both lounges.

Christmas & New Year Rentals: La Poussardierre is, despite its size, a very warm cozy home in the winter. We have full gas central heating and wood-burners in the lounge, snug and kitchen. At Christmas we can supply a fully decorated Christmas tree, house decorations and assistance, via our local property managers, in sourcing festive food and drink. The dinning kitchen seats 8 easily but we have another dining table and more chairs so it is possible to have 12 or more around the Christmas table. It is ideal for an extended family get-together.

What is there to do at Christmas in the Charente?: The pool is not available during this period but we do have UK satellite TV and Internet access and an Imac Computer so you won't miss the Christmas TV and the teenagers won't miss MySpace, Facebook, MSN, Bebo ............ Out and about .... Walking on the beach or renting sand yacht at St Georges D'Didonne, Ice skating in the square at Rochefort, the huge indoor swimming pool and leisure complex at Jonzac, the Aquarium at LaRochelle or just cycling in the lanes around the house. Or .... You could just curl up in front of the fire with one of our many paperbacks or DVD's.

Out of Season / Longer Term Rentals: Please contact us with your requirements. We are quite flexible with rental periods from October through to March and often arrange rentals of 1 month plus at very discounted rates.

Outstanding Property

We have just returned from a holiday at this property (July 09), and had a fantastic time. The house has everything we wanted and most of all, in our opinion, was perfect for our 2 year old to happily spend his day, jumping in and out of the main and 'baby' pool, playing in the garden and roaming around this large property - all in the knowledge that the house and land it stands on is very secure and safe.

The property is full of charecter yet has modern bathrooms, internet access, appliances etc and is located in a very peaceful part of France which was what we wanted.

We stayed here with friends yet the house meant none of us felt like we were living on top of eachother - there is so much outside space in sun and shady areas that we spent the days lazing round the pool, playing in the garden, reading a book in the other garden - having a glass of wine (or two) on the terrance in the evening sun, it really was ideal for us.

The house offers various sized rooms, all bigger than your average bedroom in the UK so again, space was never an issue.

Our son was able to watch his faviourite programmes on Cbeebies and on the odd occasion it got a bit chilly in the evening - we all enjoyed watching a good film and the Wimbledon final on the main tv - again, with the help of a bottle of local wine or two - which I should add, is still so much cheaper than you would find in the UK!

To summarise - this is a lovely house with so much to offer. We reluctantly had to leave, after saying an 'emotional' farewell to the geese and goslings the other side of the walled gardens who became firm firends of ours during our stay!

We wouldnt hesitate to go back and hope we do soon.

Relaxing Family Holiday

We stayed at this lovely house last Summer and enjoyed it so much we have booked again for this year.

The pictures of the house look lovely but in the flesh it is actually even bigger and better than it seems. Its in a very quiet spot but only about 10 minutes drive to the village.

Despite being in the country there was plenty for our kids 7, 9, 13 & 15 to do, they were mostly in the heated pool ( lovely ) but we think they appreciated the internet and British TV as well! The owners ( Paul & Helen ) supplied pretty much everything we could think of including pedal bikes.

We had intended to do some sightseeing but spent most of the time at the house as we couldn't drag the kids away! - Maybe this year!

Rural idyll and charm abounding

We (two older adults and four young adults 19-26) loved this house so much, and weather was so good (late June), that our plans to explore the area were often shelved in favour of staying by the lovely pool and making use of the the house's other facilities. The house was very well appointed and comfortable with enough public space, games, books, TVs or PC, to keep us all amused when we just wanted to crash in the evenings. There was nothing we missed or felt we needed. The house and grounds were well looked after by a local couple who were on call if we needed anything - we didn't. The pictures on the website look great, but it's even better in reality! Lovely walks and cycle trails all around the hamlet, along wild-flower lined routes. St Savinien, only 2-3 miles away, has everything you need incl well-stocked supermarket and other small shops, post office and chemists, quaint streets and buildings and a lovely public park. 20 mins by car will take you to a couple of small towns with lots more to do and see, and where you can find smart little boutiques and gift shops, as well as hypermarkets.
