L' Ancien Distillerie has been restored to high standards providing two independent family homes or one great, internally linked base - 'Chez Pineau' - for friends holidaying together. Each featuring large kitchen diner, games room with pool table and/or lounge, en suite facilities and period furniture, the houses welcomed their first visitors last Summer. An iron gated entrance provides secure, off road parking and privacy in stone wall enclosed grounds. A brand new 11m x 5m heated pool within a landscaped patio is ready and waiting for residents. There are four double bedrooms ( heated if necessary !) upstairs in each house. Cots can be provided upon request. Three wood burning stoves and an open fireplace grace the living rooms, which are linked internally through a lockable door. The newly fitted kitchens are well equipped, each centred around a traditional farmhouse table. The village boulangerie is 2 minutes stroll away or you're welcome to borrow a bike. Bon appetit !

L'ancien distillerie is a large, family house built of stone and oak beams comprising kitchen diner, games room with pool table, four double bedrooms, a family bathroom , an en suite shower and toilet, and an en suite toilet. Flooring is a mixture of chestnut wood parquet and tiling. The newly fitted kitchen has porcelain Belfast sink, dish washer, washing machine, micro-wave, fridge-freezer, hob, oven and ample storage space. It is furnished with a large farmhouse table seating eight, arm chairs and a wood burning stove. The games room also has its own stove. Upstairs is completely renovated with double glazed windows for temperature control but featuring traditional fittings and shutters. Externally, the house has its own patio/barbeque area, parking spaces and access to the brand new 11m by 5m heated swimming pool. Bikes are available to borrow. Easily accessible via UK low cost airlines to La Rochelle, Poitiers or Bordeaux.

Aujac is a tranquil spot within easy reach of as much excitement or not, as you may wish. The village has its own tennis court whilst golf, riding, other sports, fine food and drink, elegant towns, culture, historical monuments, sea & coast, markets, river trips and even the zoo are not far away. Or stay at home to relax amidst fields of vines and sunflowers, maybe taking the odd stroll or bike ride along quiet lanes to the village boulangerie or the nearby bar at Authon. A choice of superb value dining awaits in Matha, St Jean, Saintes or Cognac and points in between. The area is rich in history, roman Saintes boasting an intact Amphitheatre and imperial arch and Cognac the great brandy houses of France. Opportunity to sample local life and wares are abundant with many regular markets and degustation offered, it seems, around every corner. The cost of living seems cheap here and the pace of life as slow or hectic as you want to make it.

A wonderful retreat

My family and I have stayed at L' Ancien Distillerie for the last two years – we’ve been that impressed! The location and facilities are to a high standard and the addition of the swimming pool in 2008 has added to what is an already outstanding property.

We’ve found L' Ancien Distillerie suitable for young children and is in a peaceful and tranquil setting away from the madding crowd. However there are towns and amenities close by and the beaches are only an hours drive.

A car is must to get out and about to explore this wonderful region of South West France. Highly recommended.
Owner's Response: It's particularly pleasing when people choose to come back to Aujac. Another family who stayed last Summer also returned for Christmas and New Year. It means that people of all ages must feel about it the same way we do - its just a great place to come and do whatever takes your fancy

A Lovely Propert

We spent a week in August in this property and thought that it was excellent, really exceeded expectations. Rooms were comfortable, living areas practical and pool area brilliant. Will be recommending it to friends. A suggestion would be for some better sun umbrellas, some food serving platters and better wine glasses (I am into food and wine thus particular about these two things but always seem to be in the minority!). None of this detracted with our stay. Beautiful church in village for evening stroll to and Artisan Bakers on the doorstep.

My family and I(2 adults and 2 children-ages-15/11) stayed in this property this past July for 1 week and enoyed it very much. The description of the property was very accurate. Everything listed was available. The house was spacious, modern and clean and the owners were very helpfull with information. The property is located in rural France so it is in a perfect location to get away from it all but it is close enough to many other places for day trips(La Rochelle, Cognac, Bordeaux, Royan). There is lots to do at the house( bikes, badminton, tennis in the town centre). The swimming pool is fantastic. You can be as lazy or as active as you want. The bonus was the brakery in the town(less than a minutes walk) which provided delicious, fresh bread and pastries. You do need a car. We would recommend the property to anyone.

By making sure that its a place that we want to return to again and again, we hope it will also delight others whether they are staying in this beautiful region for the first time or coming back to see an old friend.
