Activities:
There are many very fine Golf Courses within easy reach. Fishing in the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers is a great experience as is canoeing in these rivers. The Tour de France passes through the area every year and cycling is very popular generally. There is a dedicated cycle track from Sauveterre (3km from our houses) to Bordeaux (50 km) and it is possible to continue to the Coast on cycle track. Wildlife abounds, and birdwatching, hiking, etc. can all be enjoyed. 5 miles to the North is a small lake with a sandy beach and leisure activities.
Chateaux and Restaurants:
The region is celebrated for its fine wine and many Chateaux offer tours of their property showing how wine is made and stored, ending normally with a 'tasting'. We have lists of recommended visits in our houses. There are many fine restaurants through out the area as well as the more reasonable places. It is possible to eat locally very reasonably (55 francs for a 4 course meal including wine!)
THE 1st Week end in July is the JAZZ FESTIVAL of Monsegur, a nearby town. NOT TO BE MISSED!
Why not come out of season and experience french rural living by joining in an end of season hunters feast? They normally happen in April.
Further Afield:
1,5 hours to the west is the dune de Pyla - the largest sand dune in Europe. The same distance to the East are the pre-historic caves of Lascaux etc. The local Tourist Office is full of ideas for interesting places to visit .
Golf:
There are many very fine golf courses within a 1 hour radius of St. Leger. The owners are golfers themselves and could put together a package of courses to play for the duration of your stay.
The 3 gites combined make an attractive setting for a large group of golfers.
