Photos and Description of this Neuffons holiday house Tastefully restored 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, Watermill in the Gironde

Moulin de Neuffons (Mill of the Nine Fountains). The Watermill has been recently restored in a truly magical location set on its own small island in the river Dropt. Accessible by wide bridge. The mill has three terraces, each planted with English roses and lavender where you can sunbathe, barbecue or just sit in the (roman style) dipping pool and relax. There are canoes and boats for exploring the river, which is well stocked with fish. The Watermill dates from the 12th Century and the old grain wheels can be seen. On the first floor there are three bedrooms each with double bed, private bathroom and WC, the third bedroom also has a single bed. Linen is provided. The second floor is a very large open plan living area with a 'cooks' kitchen opening onto one of the flowered terraces. It is ideal to relax and entertain or just to sit and watch the river. There are no mosquito's. Excellent bird watching, some fishing gear provided.

Location: Neuffons in France

Nearest Airport: Bergerac (45mins) or Bordeaux (60mins) at 60 Kilometres
Car: recommended
Easily accessed from Bergerac airport (45mins by car) or Bordeaux airport (1hr by car). The Mill is 5 min. from Monsegur where there is a choice of restaurants, cafe/bars, chocolaterie, banks, post office, boulangeries and a selection of other local shops. One of the restaurants has a Jazz night on Tuesdays and there is a Marche Nocturne on Wednesdays. There is a central arcade where the weekly market is held on Friday mornings. Monsegur has an open air swimming pool and tennis courts. The countryside has a Tuscan feel with its vineyards and chateaux. There is an excellent golf course at Chateau de Vigiers about 15min drive. Other courses include Marmande and Langon. The Atlantic coast with miles of sandy beaches is about .an1hr30mins easy drive away

Notes: Adults and children over the age of 6would really enjoy the Mill. Boating activity on the river is great fun for all ages. Lovely place for painting and sketching. Excellent birdwatching. Fishing excellent. A really comfortable house to come back to after a days sightseeing. Babysitting is available. PS: there are no mosquitoes. There are many, many Chateaux near the Mill where it is possible to go wine tasting. A days shopping and site seeing in Bordeaux is recommended. When you arrive at the Mill fresh flowers and a bottle of the local wine awaits you , and in season you can pick fresh vegetables in the owners pottage..

The hamlet in which the Mill is located: is situated around the mill pond. Access is by a small bridge. There are 3 other houses, not too close, around the large area of slow moving fairly shallow water which is renowned for good fishing. It is a very peaceful, tranquil setting with splendid views of the river and of the river Dropt. The boats (and safety jackets) provided by the owner make a superb facility for exploration of the river in either direction. The dipping pool will take 6 people comfortably but if you want to swim you can do so in the publice pool at Monségur about 5 minutes drive away. There are a number of golf courses within an hours drive.

Monségur and La Réole - market towns: are nearby. Both are historically important and full of interest. Monségur being a typical bastide town of the 13th Century. The wine areas of St. Emilion and the Sauternes are within 30 minutes drive. THE JAZZ FESTIVAL OF MONSEGUR is the first week-end of July - not to be missed - the whole town celerbrates JAZZ with concerts, bar groups, street music, stalls etc. Visit the Bordeaux tourist website to see what interesting and exciting events will be taking place during your holiday, please e-mail for the address.

The 'Cooks' kitchen contains: american fridge, ice machine, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, electric oven, gas hob and butcher block worktop.

Golf: There is excellent golf at Chateau de Vigiers, about 15 mins drive away. Other courses nearby include Marmand and Langon.

We seek out magical places and this is one of them. The Thomsons. Scotland
We have really enjoyed our week at the Mill, Kayaking up the river, spotting kingfishers and herons has been a real favorite, and the boys have enjoyed fishing. The dipping pool has been ideal for cooling off. Altogether a tranquil and relaxing week, thank you for all your help and the home grow produce, delicious! Hela, Kevin, luke, Jamie and Emma from Aylesbury.
We will never forget the four weeks we were lucky enough to spend in the beautiful old Mill on th Drop, the setting is idyllic, we have enjoyed canoeing along the river, reading on the lavender-scented terraces. We shall return home with a store of happy memories. Andy, Sally. Sarah and Nathan from Somerset. We have had a wonderful time here. This has been a place which has touched all of us. We have had a real opportunity to enjoy the countryside ,local food and wine. Our recommendation will carry forward for many years to come . D.Poole.

This is a stunning location. The house is extremely comfortable, well equipped and immaculately clean. Lovely welcome with fresh flowers, wine and jam awaited us. Fresh vegetables appeared on our doorstep during our stay. Lots of interesting places to visit, sampling the local wine was a delight and the local markets cheap and very French.
A wonderful holiday, we will certainly return.

The Mill is a beautiful building, in a superb location, extremely well kept and comfortably furnished. There is lots to see and do in the surrounding area, or you can just go for a paddle on the river, where there is plenty of bird life.It is totally relaxing.
The owner is very helpful and has nice little touches - fresh flowers around the house and fresh vegetables and salad from the garden when available.She will advise on local restaurants, markets etc.
