Ogeu-les-Bains is an attractive large village in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Many of its houses date back to medieval times and it is famous as the source of Ogeu water - the mineral water of the Pyrenees. From the house it is a ten-minute walk to the local supermarket, which sells all essentials and is also a very good baker's. The village also has a chemist, post office, cafe/bar, an excellent restaurant and a train station with regular trains to Pau. The lovely town of Oloron-Sainte-Marie is ten minutes by car and has plenty of other shops and restaurants. There are some beautiful walks around Ogeu and it is also an ideal base for exploring the Parc National des Pyrenees and the magnificent Vallee d'Aspe and Vallee d'Ossau. The picturesque Basque area is also close by. Gourette, the local ski resort, is a 40-minute drive away and is a first-rate resort for both the beginner and the expert. Rarely crowded, it is much better value than most Alpine ski resorts.
