Atlantic Coast and Lakes - between Bordeaux (1 hr) and Biarritz (1.5 hours)

The Villa Trefle is a luxury self-catering villa situated approximately 500 metres from the nearest swimming lakeside beach on the Lac de Sanguinet. Take an evening stroll or cycle on the specially constructed cycle track around this stunning freshwater lake, (roughly the same size as the island of Guernsey), into the pretty village of Sanguinet. Here you will find a small supermarket, 2 bakers, post office, doctor, chemist and five restaurants – 3 of which are at the lakeside - what sunsets! Shallow around the perimeter, the lake retains the heat from the sun. Consequently, it is possible to swim in the lake from May to October. During the summer months the normal water temperature at the lake is 26C! The first class ocean surfing beaches at Biscarrosse Plage are approximately 15 minutes drive away. Ideal for a quiet family holiday, the villa Trèfle has a completely private and enclosed garden to the front and rear, and the very attractive mature rear garden faces the forest.

This area will appeal to all ages, whether you are searching for lots of activity or just want to laze in the sunshine. An ideal location with the ocean beaches and the sun warmed freshwater lake just 15 min apart. Surf, body board, fish, sail, wind surf, kite surf, water ski - every conceivable type of water activity is on the doorstep. Visit the other surfing beaches at Mimizan Plage, Hossegor etc. Cycle on the special tracks or ride through the pine scented forests, bird watch at Le Teich, taste oysters in Arcachon, and the wine in St Emilion and the Medoc. Sample the shopping and architecture in historic Bordeaux (magnificent when floodlit) or San Sebastien, just over the border in Spain. Picturesque St Jean de Luz has Hemingway associations, whilst pretty St Jean Pied du Port is on the pilgrimage route to St Jacques de Compostella. Spend a day in elegant Biarritz with reminders of the 1930's jet set. Nearest airports are Bordeaux (1hr) Biarritz (1.5hrs) and Bergerac (2.5hrs).

  • A security deposit of £150 must be added to the total rental required. This amount will be refunded in full within two weeks of the end of your holiday - subject of course to a satisfactory inspection report.
  • End of stay cleaning may be arranged (a minimum of one week's notice must be given). The charge for this service is 70 euros, payable locally to the caretaker. End of stay cleaning does NOT regrettably, include cleaning the oven, the hob, or the barbecue grid.
  • Outside the main holiday periods the Villa Trèfle is available for either a 3 day break (Friday, Saturday and Sunday night) or a 4 day break (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night) – 4 nights for the price of 3 - from £250

The garden is completely private and is not overlooked in any way. ** The villa is fully double glazed and there are wooden shutters to all windows, except the kitchen and bathroom, which are protected by a decorative metal grille. ** A travel cot is also available, but please note that the cot bedding and also tea towels are NOT provided. ** There is a local caretaker. ** The garage can provide useful secure storage space for bicycles, windsurfers etc. ** The huge terrace has a wisteria shaded pergola and overlooks the forest to the rear of the property. The adjoining annexe is where the owners occasionally stay, mainly outside the main holiday periods. One of the owners speaks fluent French and will be happy to help with any problem IF she is in residence.

The Villa Trèfle was so well equipped. The tinies (1 and 3 years) loved playing in the lake, it was so clean and so warm. They also enjoyed the lakeside naps under the trees in the heat of the afternoon and the paddling pool/sandpit at the villa. Our eldest couldn’t get enough of the body boarding at Biscarrosse Plage and all the family enjoyed playing table tennis in the garden, hiring cycles and exploring. A wonderful location – and only 1hour max from the airport – who could ask for more?!
