The apartment is in the very centre of Chamonix, just off the main square Place Balmat, with direct car access to and from its own private basement car park. Quality restaurants all around, local shops on the doorstep and very many activity facilities within walking distance. Chamonix is situated at the end of the major A40 motorway from Geneva, which is barely an hour’s drive away. The Mont Blanc tunnel access to Italy is on the doorstep. The nearest regular free ski bus stop is 100 yards from the apartment and visits all the individual ski areas in the whole of the valley. The Aiguille du Midi cable car is a short walk away. Alternatively Chamonix's rail station links with the whole of Europe.

An additional charge will be made to cover the laundry and cleaning at the time of booking. Our Local Agent is the first point of call if there is a major problem which needs dealing with immediately. Native English speakers, they are based close to the apartment in the centre of Chamonix. We ask that you play a small part in this by keeping the apartment tidy, disposing of rubbish and cleaning kitchen surfaces, bathroom and toilet surfaces when you depart. 50% of rental required on booking in normal circumstances although full payment required for late bookings..

Notes: The large very high specification apartment has a lovely balcony and is well equipped for both summer and winter. There is lots of cupboard and drawer space. It has garage parking and a ski cave. Bed linen is provided. The fully equipped kitchen has a good range of crockery, cutlery and cooking pans and utensils. Washing machine/drier. There is TV & DVD and a separate stereo with CD and radio. Wifi connection available. The spacious bathrooms are very high specification with showers above each bath. The master bedroom has a 5 foot wide bed and all beds have fully sprung mattresses. Top specification comfort double bed within large three seater sofa. The two three-seater “English specification” sofas in the lounge are extremely comfortable.

Chamonix's Popularity: Chamonix is a classic holiday destination and a hidden gem for the summer. French and Italians have been visiting it for decades on their summer holidays as there is so much to do and fantastic scenery to take in. They often use it as a touring base. It has everything for complete relaxation, taking it easy and amazing sights as well as for those who like good walking and activity sports. It provides excellent access to nearby beauty spots and places of interest including those in Italy and Switzerland. Further afield Annecy ('Venice of the North')and its lake is within a day's trip.

Summer: There’s something for everyone – lots of activities for the energetic and things to see and do to relax. Mountaineering is world famous and you can watch the climbers from on high via the cable cars as well as from the road. There’s tennis, swimming, golf (an 18 hole course in the valley bottom), horse riding, hang gliding, para gliding, rafting and canoeing. There are museums, libraries, concerts, gardens, a casino and piano bars. Close to Chamonix are waterfalls and flora & fauna exhibition centres. The cable car to the top of the Aiguille du Midi (3,847m) is spectacular. The variety of walking available is fantastic and there are huge areas of nature reserves to explore. There are gentle walks along the valley bottom, the river Arve and the golf course. But the most dramatic are up top where views of the glaciers and mountain lakes are not to be missed.

Ski: Skiing in the Chamonix valley is excellent. There is tremendous off-piste, the day-long and unforgettable Vallée Blanche as well as fine intermediate slopes with fantastic views and ski schools for beginners. Energetic and excellent skiers come back year after year without getting bored. For some it’s just “the place to be”. There’s plenty of opportunity for cross country skiing too. The individual areas served by the free ski bus (and with car parks if you want to drive) are Argentiere, Grand Montets, Brevent, Flegere and Les Houches. There’s more than enough to ski a different area each day of a week long holiday. Each has its different attributes from north or south facing, steeper or gentler, for advanced or intermediate skiers. It is a real advantage to be centrally placed with a free ski bus stop almost opposite the apartment.

Fantastic Apartment in Unbeatable Location.

We (two adults and two teenage boys) visited Chamonix in August for the second time in two years - Chamonix is a wonderful summer destination for walking/mountain biking and this apartment is the ideal place to stay. The location is superb, with very good access and security. The best patisserie and ice cream in Chamonix is sold just across the street! The apartment itself is very nicely furnished/equipped and double glazed, so remains cool even in August temperatures, a testimony to good construction and insulation! The fact that each bedroom has access to a bathroom/shower (one en-suite to the double room, the other just opposite the twin room) is the ideal arrangement for either two couples or families with teenagers. Very good secure storage and car parking in the basement. If you don't want to bother with a rental car just book the return trip from/to Geneva Airport with ChamExpress, which provides a reliable, comfortable, friendly, service, virtually door to door. Once you are in Chamonix you don't need a car anyway, due to telecabines, buses and trains which are designed to cope with the busy winter months and handle the summer months with ease. Excellent management by the local agents - the apartment was spotless and key pick up and return very simple.Overall, a superb package, which we will recommend to all of our friends and we will be back next year!

Excellent apartment right in Chamonix centre

This was our first time renting an apartment and I was nervous about renting from a complete stranger. However as soon as we arrived my worries were put to rest.

The apartment was far better then I had expected, the photos on the advert do not do it justice. The location right on the main walking street of Chamonix was very convenient and sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine watching all the people was a way to start the evening.

I can't understand why people pay more to stay in a hotel when you can have a whole apartment instead.

For us it was very convenient being able to shop and eat breakfast and some meals in the apartment, to be able to do some washing mid stay and to have constant wifi access throughout our stay.

Parking was perfect, as secure garage under the building easily accessed when driving into town.

I would recommend this apartment to anyone considering a holiday in Chamonix.

Location! Location! Location!

My family 2 adults & 2 teenage children stayed in Apartment Balmat for a week in Jan 2009.
I must admit I was a little unsure about this apartment when we booked.
I Should not have had a second thought! The position is absolutely perfect, right in the centre of town with a great view from the balcony.
The place was spotless and very well furnished.
Easy walk through the lane opposite to the bus stop which will take you to any part of th valley.
You could easily self cater in this place but with plenty of restaurants and cafes so close there is no need.
Great heating so no problems in cold weather.
Ski locker in basement was the only negative.With 3 sets of skis and 1 snowboard it was a tight fit.
Owner's Response: There is a huge lockable 'cave' room with the apartment that can take a couple of dozen skis and boots etc as well as your empty luggage which most guests use instead of the ski locker.
