Winter Activities:
Most of the skiing is above 1800m and the ski area, which has eight mountain restaurants, has 120km of uncrowded pistes with 31 ski lifts, 44 pistes, including 3 nursery slopes in the village and 29km of cross-country skiing while for snow boarders there is a snow park. Lessons are available from the local Ecole du Ski, for all levels, if required, and can be booked online. Les Contamines also has very good off-piste for the more adventurous skier and English-speaking ski guides are available for hire. None of the 14 resorts of the Chamonix ski domain are more than 45 minutes drive away including Les Grands Montets at Argentiere and an 'Evasion Mont Blanc' ski pass will grant you access to another 400+ kilometres in the likes of Combloux, St. Gervais and Megeve among others. Local ski guides can take you on a descent of the world famous Vallee Blanche.
Summer Activities:
The Mont Blanc Massif provides endless walking opportunities around the village as well as mountain biking and horse riding among some of the most beautiful alpine scenery. Professional mountain guides offer a complete range of activities and will take clients up the most demanding peaks as well as low level rambles to discover the local alpine flora. A local sports park offers tennis, boules, archery, golf, trampolining and numerous other activities. In nearby st. Gervais, there is an indoor swimming pool and ice rink. The local cable car operates in the summer for easy access to the mountain restaurants and for bikers to gain height quickly.
Les Contamines is a picturesque Savoyard village with plenty of traditional charm, most of its surrounding area being a National Park nature reserve. The village has two supermarkets, many shops, 13 restaurants, post office, numerous bars, two banks, a cash point and a tourist office providing everything one might require. The summer witnesses many outdoor events including an international tennis competition, the local boules league and open air concerts. The village is also close enough to the towns of Chamonix and Annecy for a day out while the Swiss and Italian borders (the latter reached via the Mont Blanc tunnel) are not that far away.
