Photos and Description of this Megeve holiday apartment A spacious alpine apartment for good value, skiing and mountain activities.

Lovely, spacious first-floor apartment in la Giettaz, traditionally fitted to a high standard by local craftsmen. Comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and always cosy and warm. La Giettaz is a real mountain village - not a purpose-built ski resort - nestling in a dramatic setting between its snow-sure north-facing slopes and a national park. The pistes are just 10 minutes from the apartment by free ski bus or there is plenty of parking if you drive. The skiing links with Megeve (Jaillet slopes) and Combloux. The local ski area is now known as Les Portes du Mont Blanc. La Giettaz has some great off-piste skiing without crowds. Buses link the area with Evasion Mont Blanc and a total skiing area of 450km. The lift passes are great value & the food is reputedly the best in the Alps. Brilliant skiing to suit all abilities, and hardly ever a queue ! In the summer there are numerous walks starting from the apartment and further afield. Other activities are close by.

Notes: Beautifully refurbished in Alpine style throughout. The apartment is a lovely home from home with a very well-equipped kitchen for self catering and comfortable bedrooms with plenty of storage. Bathroom facilities are modern and in excellent condition. The TV receives all British freeview channels and French TV. The village has a small supermarket, 2 bakeries and a delicatessen with tea room and games area. There is an excellent butcher and a bar which does great cocktails. There are 4 restaurants (including hotel restaurants). An excellent ski hire shop is only a 5 minute easy walk from our apartment. The ski lifts are at Le Plan which is a small hamlet 3.5 kms away. It has 3 restaurants, a good value snack bar and a ski hire shop. In summer there are restaurants open at the Col des Aravis (at 1430 metres) which is short drive away. This is a friendly village where prices are considerably lower than in the major resorts. There are fewer people and a more authentic alpine atmosphere.

Guest comments from our visitors book:: Once again enjoyed our stay in this lovely apartment. Thanks once again – we love this region. Don and Sylvia Prosser and friends. March 07 We have stayed at many self-catering apartments/chalets/villas. This is easily the best. Exceptionally well equipped, comfortable, well situated. The locals in La Giettaz are friendly and helpful. The slopes at Le Plan had something for everyone. A very enjoyable holiday. We felt at home away from home. Thank you. Will certainly recommend you to our friends. The Adach family Feb 07 Perfect apartment. The place was well equipped and very comfortable. La Giettaz was wonderful with great views, shops and restaurants. The ski bus was a great way to get to the slopes at le Plan. We had a fantastic stay here. Thanks. The Denny and Coffey families Feb 07 Brilliant holiday in a fabulous apartment. Superb evening walk on raquettes to old mountain chalet. Lovely moonlit trek and great ambience. Pat and Steve Boden Feb 07

Skiing in La Giettaz: The ski lifs are about 4 kms away in the hamlet of Le Plan. There is a ski bus which starts its journey just 50m from our apartment. It takes about 10 mins to the lifts. The timetable varies according to the season. There is plenty of parking at the lifts and rarely any queues. You will find the ski school hut for booking lessons there as well as the lift pass hut. There are restaurants and a ski hire shopl. The skiing is very varied in La Giettaz from the beginners slopes at the bottom to some great off-piste and a snow park. The pistes are very well maintained. Views of Mont Blanc are spectacular and the skiing links with that of Combloux and the Jaillet slopes of Megeve. To access the other areas of Megeve necessitates using the buses across the town. La Giettaz is also well positioned for accessing other skiing areas - La Clusaz is 20 minutes drive over the Col des Aravis and the Espace Diamant area of Notre Dame de Bellecombe, Flumet and Les Saisies is only 12 minutes drive.

Ski: La Giettaz is usually blessed with good snow from the beginning of the season. Its slopes range from fairly easy to very challenging. The views are magnificent and there are some good restaurants for lunch stops. La Giettaz slopes connect with Combloux and Jaillet (part of Megeve) and there are buses which connect across Megeve into the Evasion Mont Blanc area. The slopes are generally not crowded and lift queues are minimal. Lift passes are good value. The ‘Evasion Mont Blanc’ pass costs €171(€137 for children) for 6 days (2008/9) and offers a massive choice to suit all abilities, with over 450 km of skiing. The 'Portes du Mont Blanc' pass costs €120 (€93.50 for children) and covers 63 pistes (100 km). Reductions apply to children up to 15 and adults over 60; under 5s ski free. The local ski school is excellent and teaches in small classes with several instructors speaking good English.

Other Activities: snowshoeing; nature walks

This place was fabulous. It was in a superb location for summer walking and the views from the balcony were great. The place was very clean, well equipped and maintained. It had everything you could possibly need to make your holiday more than comfortable. It is v handy for the Via Ferrata and just over an hour to Chamonix and all that it offers. There were loads of towels provided and the owners made sure a highchair and cot was available for our 14 month old son at no extra cost.
The place itself was almost shut down in the last week of May, but that didnt matter to seasoned walkers like ourselves. It is a nature lovers paradise and worth another visit !!

Skiing Feb 2008

Review Submitted: February 24, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
So impressed with this apartment. Set in a small but lovely village, quiet but with everything you need. We loved it. The surrounding ski areas are excellent and offered everything we needed in runs. Chez Lulu the local bar was friendly and welcoming and the pizza restaurant next door was alos great. We knew we would be happy here when we purchased fresh rillet from the village butchers and cornichon and bread from the little supermarket -delicious!

I can highly recommend this apartment- whet a treat to come home to at the end of a hard days skiing- warm, comfortable and spacious - top marks!!

Seriously looking at booking for next year just need to sort out the dates.

Review Submitted: February 21, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
This is the third time I have stayed at this chalet and I hope that it will not be my last! The snow was excellent and the La Giettaz skiing resort is the best that I have been to. It benefits from less crowds compared to Megeve and makes for a enjoyable skiing experience. There is more than enough skiing to keep you interested for a week of two. The free shuttle bus to the slopes (10mins) from just outside the chalet means that you do not have to be tied to your car too.
The chalet itself is excellent - very comfortable and with all the necessary mod cons.
I cannot recommend this chalet strongly enough!!
Owner's Response: Thanks Henry. You certainly had wonderful weather and I'm glad you and your family enjoyed themselves. La Giettaz is a gem of a place.

Fond memories

Review Submitted: January 25, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2007
We stayed here back in Easter 2006 (not 2007 as on the "form"), after I finally persuaded my wife to try ski-ing. The warmth and friendliness of reserving the accommodation with Morag beforehand was key in sealing the deal! We found the property better than described - being warm, comfortable, spacious and attractive. The fully fitted kitchen, lovely beds and duvets and quality bath / shower rooms all contributed to a fabulous home for the week. The atmosphere in the village from the welcoming evening in the square, to the small shops and bars, was all always friendly, perhaps benefiting from all the owners apparently being related to one and another in some way! The ski-school were excellent, putting up with us and our friends very diverse requirements, with Sandrine being a particular star. The only slight downside, through no fault of the owners, was, being Easter, the snow had deteriorated somewhat. Even so, there was a fresh fall mid-week to brighten things up. Obviously, you are not right on the slopes here, but in some ways that was preferable for our requirements of a holiday incorporating ski-ing, rather than 10 hours a day on the slopes. All in all we would love to return (hence why I am looking and now writing this very belated review) once the large puppy we acquired last year is settled and ready for kennels!
Owner's Response: We should be delighted to welcome you back. It's also a wonderful place for a summer holiday if you enjoy mountain activities.

Little Beauty!

Review Submitted: January 23, 2008 Date of Stay: January 2008
Our stay in La Giettaz could not have been any better, it has now set the standard for what we expect everytime my friends i and look for accomodation. i dare say we will return next year at least, if not for the next few!

The location is ideal, a small town with a good boulangerie close by for the breakfast pain au chocolate and friendly atmosphere with helpful locals.

The nearby slopes accessed from Le Plan (Torraz chairlift) are only 5km's up the road and were quiet and give access to the smaller side of the Megeve area - easily enough terrain to keep most happy for a day or two. The apt is also close to a number of linked ski area's: the larger main Megeve area aswell as the smaller Val D'Arly and La Clusaz.
We were lucky enough to have such good conditions at La Plan we did not find time to visit Val D'Arly but found that the larger Megeve area was better laid out than La Clusaz and less busy.

The apt. itself is warm and very comfortable, with a few things you may not expect! The kitchen has a good gas hob and proper oven, there is also a microwave but we found we never need it. We are all keen cooks, and we found everything we needed to make our evening meals an occasion.

The lounge area is very welcoming, a larger comfy couch and 2 lazy armchairs with footstools (just what is needed after a long day in the snow), TV and DVD player which also works as a stereo (complete with an MP3 cable) is a nice touch and left us wanting for nothing.

The rooms are well laid out and the power shower in the ensuite of the double room is better than any long soak in a bath!

I would not hesitate to recommend this apt to anyone looking for a little bit of luxury and access to some wonderful slopes and scenery without the noise and fuss of a busy resort.
Owner's Response: Thanks Matthew - we love it too!
