Val d’Isère ::
Undoubtedly the most highly regarded ski resort in France and setting of prestigious Mens Olympic Downhill Competition in 1992. Once an 11th Century hunting village, it first opened its doors to skiers in 1932. The resort has long since spread high alongside River Isère to form three contrasting villages: the bustling Olympic town centre of Val Village; the ‘futuristic’ La Daille; and the sleepy hamlet of Le Fornet.
Getting to Val d'Isere ::
By Air: Lyon or Geneva Airport - approx. 3hrs 30mins transfer. By Train: Bourg St. Maurice station. Bus or taxi to resort. By Car: Autoroute to Albertville. N90 (dual carriageway) to moutiers. D902 to Bourg St. Maurice. Follow signs.
Ski:
Excellent skiing to suit all standards, with fast and efficient access to all sectors of the 300km L'Espace Killy. The mountains closest to Val d'Isere accommodate a surprising variety of pistes as well as vast areas of off-piste. Beginners will find free ski lifts on the wide nursery slopes beside Val Village and La Daille. There are several ski schools, and all three villages have lift stations, linked to each other by an efficient ski bus service. The 133 pistes comprise 21 green, 63 blue, 35 red and 14 black and the lifts include 2 funiculars, 4 cable cars. 4 gondolas, 50 chairlifts and 38 draglifts.
