Summer activities - walking:
For those looking to enjoy the beautiful scenery around Vaujany on foot, there are some wonderful walks to explore, with a range of difficulty and length - from 2 hours through to a full day.
You might like to start with the walk to the La Fare waterfall - a beautiful route through wooded glades that takes about 2 hours to complete. More advanced is the walk to le Collet and following that, to the top of the Col du Sabot. For a real challenge, you might even consider the walk to the top of the Col du Couard, which takes a full day to complete.
Whatever your walking ability and level, we'd be happy to advise on a suitable route.

Summer activities - cycling:
Chalet La Maitreya provides an ideal base from which to explore some of the superb cycling in the area. There are a whole range of routes to attempt - from the leisurely through to the extremely challenging, including the world-famous Alpe d'Huez climb - which is not for the faint hearted! When you've done this, why not try the climb up to Les Deux Alpes, too...
Or, if you prefer to take your cycling a little easier, which not enjoy a trip through the nearby Parc National des Ecrins - with superb views and some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Alps. There are also routes along the Iron Cross Peak (Col de la Croix de Fer) and Glandon Peak (Col de Glandon) to explore at your leisure.
Whatever your cycling ability and aspirations, there's plenty to tackle here - and the chalet provides a truly welcoming base to return to at the end of a hard day in the saddle. Having worked this hard, you'll probably want to take full advantage our of sauna to sooth away your aches and pains!
Summer activities - other:
If, however, an adrenaline rush tops your list of essential holiday ingredients, then you may want to try your hand at mountain-biking some of the 240km of marked runs, from green through to steep black.
Alternatively, why not try paragliding, climbing, rafting, tennis or even quad biking? Or, if watersports are your thing, there's sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and even pedal-boating in nearby Allemont.
Or, you might just want a break from it all, and to relax in the beautiful summer sunshine! Not a problem! With sunshine levels significantly above the average for the Alps, Vaujany and Chalet La Maitreya provide the ideal place to escape from the pressure of everyday life and to take it easy.

Ski:
Together Vaujany and Alpe d’Huez comprise an extended ski area named Les Grandes Rousses. You don't have to wait for the skilifts in Vaujany: within 15 minutes two 160-persons-cabins can take you to a height of 2,800 meter, where you can enjoy a variety of ski-slopes with a total length of 240 km.
Not a single day is the same in the Les Grandes Rousses skiing area: one day you might make long descents on blue ski-slopes through the woods, another day you might want to face the challenge of descending the longest black ski-slope of Europe. The geography of the area with gentle vertical drop at the base of the slopes is ideal for learning to ski or snowboard on the green runs and the beginner area
The black, expert runs accessible from the Pic Blanc and La Marmotte 3 cable car attract thrill seekers and the more technically advanced skiers to experience the maximum vertical drop of 2200 meters. You can enjoy a hour and a half of uninterrupted skiing thanks to the network of skiruns
