Skiing in Chamonix:
Chamonix is the spiritual home of mountaineering and for good reason. With Mont Blanc looking down from one side and Les Aiguilles Rouges the other side the mountains here in Chamonix are quite simply stunning.
With five main ski areas, Les Houches, Le Brevent, La Flegere, Le Tour and the mythical Les Grands Montets there is tons of choices of places to ski, each with its own particular feel and view. With so much choice you can cruise wide open pistes or drop down steep gullies, or do it all in a week, the choice is yours.
There is also the famous Aiguille du Midi cable car that whisks you up to over 3800 metres from where you can ski with a guide down the simply stunning Vallee Blanche marvelling at the beautiful Sea of Ice.
Do not think Chamonix is only for the daring off piste expert, there is no denying it is a mecca for all extreme skiers, but everyone else can have a spectacular holiday here as well including beginners on the beginner slopes dotted throughout the valley
Summer in Chamonix:
Chamonix is not just a winter destination, the mountains are here all year and once the snow goes, a new playground is revealed.
Hiking here is a joy, use the lift to gain height, do a walk at altitude, then take the lift down to save the knees makes for a stunning day out. Also navigation here is very straightforward, there are plenty of marked walking trails and the mountains are so big you can easily relocate by looking around.
Mountain biking is also getting really big here in Chamonix, use the lifts to get high, then ride steep single track or cruise across the high alpine trails, the choice is yours.
There are also plenty of activities to do on the rivers, white water rafting, canyoning or kayaking are all available and reasonably priced, and do not need specialist skills.
Climbing and mountaineering, whether you want an afternoon at the crag or to be climbing snowy ridges at altitude Chamonix has it all.
Relaxing in Chamonix in the Summer:
The Alps have a beautiful climate in the summer, long hot days, cool nights and endless stunning views. If you just want to do a bit of gentle sightseeing and relax in the sun why not do something a little different this summer.
With the Montenvers railway taking you up to the Mer de Glace glacier, the cable cars all open to get up mountains without getting up a sweat, the beautiful town of Annecy and the shops of Geneva are only an hour away where you will be spoiled for choice.
There are also the Spas in Switzerland less than an hour away. Enjoy an afternoon relaxing in the sun, soaking in the pools and maybe even take in a relaxing treatment as well
