We have had a great time. The apartment had plenty of space for our family of 4. Our children aged 16 and 13 were pleased to have the privacy of their own bedrooms and having toilet/bathroom facilities both upstairs and downstairs made life a lot more comfortable. The chalet was impeccably clean and the kitchen was well stocked both with utensils and consumables. We had brought so much food and cleaning materials which weren't necessary. We suggest you do liase with Alex and Hugh in this respect prior to going out there. The bedrooms were all a good size and i think my wife would confirm there was plenty of hanging space in the wardrobes! There is a garage where we kept the bikes and there is plenty of room for off road parking. The chalet is situated maybe a couple of hundred feet above the town centre but it takes just 5 minutes to walk down and less than 10 to walk back up. We rode our bikes down the hill most mornings for croissants and the climb is shallow enough to cycle back up again.
Les Contamines has a very nice safe feel about it and residential areas and the town itself is/are well manicured and attractive with lots of flowers. There is so much to do in the area in summertime. Our children loved swimming in the local lake and in the same dedicated area there is high wire adventures in the trees, mini golf, tennis, volley ball and basketball courts, golf driving range, horse riding, rock climbing, take a cable car up the mountain and cycle down, various companies offer paragliding and white water rafting. There are good walks right from the chalet and the choice of walks in the area is great. Eating out wasn't cheap due to the current exchange rate but not excessive and we had taken that into account so there were no surprises, however, we found the apartment so comfortable we were happy to stay in, cook a meal, have a drink and watch a family movie. We were also delighted to note the near absence of mosquitoes. Whether that was because the apartment is on the first floor up or the general altitude we couldn't say. We made a day trip to Annecy, the old town is beautiful as is the lake, but avoid the weekends as the place was packed.
The weather has been great, mid 20's to mid 30's for 2 weeks, but you have to take rain gear as well. As a measure of the holidays success, we asked the children whether they would want to come back to Les Contamines in the future to which they both offered a resounding YES.
