The chalet + separate apartment (on the same property but entirely separate with its own private entrance) are superbly situated in the traditional village of Les Houches just 5km from the Alpine capital of Chamonix (free bus available). Perfect for skiing in winter (next to the pistes and just a 2 minute walk from the 2 cable cars - so close you can ski back for lunch!) and alpine adventures in summer, the Alpine Retreat has a large private garden with unbeatable views over the Mont Blanc mountain range. Just a 2-minute walk from shops, 5 restaurants, a bakery + several bars. The accommodation is very spacious, tastefully refurbished and of a very high standard. Free unlimited wifi internet access and free view satellite TV are available. Please note, you do not have to be a group of 10 to enjoy the spacious farmhouse with its 3 bathrooms and 2 reception rooms; we often have groups of 4 - 6 people relaxing in the comfort of the farmhouse.

Apartment JOY is located to the rear of the Alpine Retreat chalet. It has its own separate entrance. JOY can be booked separately or together with the main chalet for larger groups. JOY has also recently been completely refurbished to a very high standard and consists of a large living room with a sofa bed + easy chairs, a TV (with satellite free view channels + a DVD player), free wifi broadband internet access, a dining area (with a table + 4 chairs), a kitchen area (with a 2 ring cooker, a microwave, sink, fridge/freezer + wine store) and a bunk bed at one end - see photo. There is also a separate double bedded room + a separate bathroom (with a shower, sink + WC). The apartment shares the large private garden with the alpine retreat chalet. The garden has numerous private areas as well as tables + chairs which enable guests to sit and enjoy the most spectacular views of the Mont Blanc mountain range. Les Houches is a traditional Savoyarde village at the base of Mont Blanc, 5 km from Chamonix.  It has a range of activities to please every taste.  Summer: visitors enjoy hiking, mountain biking, rafting, climbing, paragliding, canyoning, glacial walking, to name just a few.  All are easily accessible using several cable cars (the nearest is just 2 minutes by foot), mountain trains, local buses + well marked trails.  Winter, Les Houches is one of 5 ski resorts in the Chamonix valley. The pretty tree-lined pistes whilst family-friendly provide challenging skiing for all - it hosts the Men’s World Cup Downhill race each year.  There are numerous restaurants + being next to the pistes, you can pop back for lunch! Local attractions: huski dogs, St Bernard kennels, ice-skating, indoor climbing, sledging (in the garden + at a park), swimming etc.  A free bus (and train) give easy access to Chamonix + the surrounding resorts.  Day trips to Italy + skiing the Vallee Blanche are popular.

Travel.: Most of our guests either fly to Geneva airport (EasyJet) which is less than an hour's drive/bus journey away, or they drive from the UK (8 hours from the French ferry ports). Other nearby airports include Turin (1 3/4 hrs drive) Lyon (2 hrs) and Milan (3 hrs). Car hire is available at all of these airports. We can arrange transfers from Geneva airport if required.

Ski: Our location is unbeatable; next to the pistes of Les Houches (one of the 5 resorts that make up the Chamonix valley) - a large family resort which has skiing to suite every level. Even the Men's World Cup downhill race is held here each year on the red piste that runs past the end of the garden! There are more than 20 ski runs giving miles of pistes + the tree-lined trails are undoubtedly the best in the valley. The 2 cable cars, (located 2 minutes from the Retreat) + numerous chair lifts give easy access to the extensive skiing area on our doorstep and the huge range of traditional mountain restaurants make the resort one which many visit year after year. Over 100 snow canons make skiing back to the village/chalet a reality throughout the season and local transport is available (nearest bus stop is just 50 meters from the Alpine Retreat) enabling free access to the other resorts in the valley for those without a car.

This cosy apartment was perfectly situated for our family skiing holiday with only a two minute walk to the main lift to the slopes. The apartment was first class with everything needed for a self catering holiday. Our hosts at Alpine Retreat were both extremely helpful and friendly with nothing being too much trouble to them. The property is also ideally situated for the regular bus service to Chamonix which we found easy to use and frequent. All the facilities we required e.g. ski hire and restaurants are all within a few minutes walk from the front door. Even good supermarket is only a 10 minute walk away (take your own bags). We used local ski school again only two minutes walk which was excellent for our two childrens first skiing adventure. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone with or without a family so much so we wish to return as soon as possible (hopefully this summer). 10 out of 10!

The Alpine Retreat was a perfect base for our week's skiing holiday. At just over an hour away from Geneva airport the transfer time was great, and at under 10 mins walk from the gondola at our apartment at Alpine Retreat was well positioned in the village.

On our arrival the apartment was clean, cosy and warm. We had everything we needed provided for us and the added bonus of finding out that we had access to a free bus service running up and down the valley to Chamonix.

Also, within a ten minute walk was the supermarket, tourist office, bank (with cashpoint) and train station.

The view from the apartment is amazing!! Mont Blanc is perfectly framed by the window frame of the bedroom window. Whoever built the house 230 years ago must have know that tourists of the future would need perfect views!!

From Alpine Retreat, we not only had the skiing on our doorstep, but also a wide range of activities and attractions. We skiied in the morning and took advantage of the free bus/train service to visit places such as the Mer de Glace in Chamonix and the St Bernard dog kennels at the opposite end of the valley.

I'd definately recommend, without hesitation, the Alpine Retreat. It would suit a wide range of holiday makers, from those who want a wide variety of ski slopes at their ski tips, to those who want to fill everyday with something different as we did.

Rob and Suzanne have done an excellent job in creating a getaway that really does what it says on the tin.......it truly is an Alpine Retreat!!
