Summer:
The resort itself is attractive with wooden chalets, old fashioned hotels and famous Baroque churches. Night life is centred around the bars and restaurants. Considering its proximity to the popular resorts of Chamonix and Megève, it has managed to retain its traditional relaxed Haute Savoie atmosphere.
The mountains themselves offer a wealth of activities from rock & ice-climbing, canoeing & abseiling, hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering, rambling, paragliding to painting and photography. There is a gondola lift open in the summer so that you can enjoy the mountains without the tired legs feeling.
Other leisure activities include 2 adventure playgrounds, 2 boating lakes with beach areas for swimming and sunbathing, donkey/horse riding, skate boarding park, tree-top trails, 8 championship tennis courts, golf driving range and nearby courses, fishing and boules nights. There is a great outdoor pool in neighbouring St Gervais. Temperatures normally average 70/85 all summer.
Winter:
The village is a picture postcard during the winter months.
There is a wealth of activities to suit both the most adventurous holidaymaker and those seeking total tranquility. Downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing dominate the winter activities. However, for the non-skiers there is plenty ground to cover on snowshoes, walks on the many forest tracks, ice-skating on the natural open air ice rink.
There are plenty bars and restaurants designed in typical Savoyard style serving regional specialties and carry out meals, and shops to satisfy most budgets including great value winter gear. There are also good bakeries, 2 banks, and a post office.
Access by car remains easy with the road from the motorway exit being maintained regularly with regard to snow clearance. Traffic jams are generally not an issue in this valley.
Tourism:
The village is an ideal place to establish a touring base for visiting various regions including the whole of the fantastic Haute Savoie area, Burgundy wine valley and also nearby Switzerland and Italy. Within just over an hour by car you can be in either of the neighbouring countries, scaling the heights of the Mont Blanc or tasting the latest 'cru' in a wine cellar. The medieval village of Yvoire on the banks of lake Geneva makes for a great day trip, as does a visit to Annecy, Lyon or even whizzing off to Paris on the TGV.
Ski:
Two efficient gondola's take you up to 1900m to start your skiing. A total of 47 slopes covering a domain of 120km for downhill skiing suited to all standards, particularly intermediates. There are excellent nursery slopes both in the village and up the mountain, and great black runs and off-piste opportunities all season round. The east facing bowl holds it snow well and offers a near snow guarantee. There is a snow park and boardercross course for the more adventurous. The ski-school offers group and private lessons in ski and snowboard for all levels and there are plenty English speaking instructors. The resort shares a regional lift pass 'Evasion Mont Blanc' with St Gervais, St Nicolas, Megève, Combloux covering 420km. Après ski activities include husky dog-sledding, 29km of cross country skiing, ice-skating on the natural rink, snow-shoeing, or simply relaxing with a hot wine and a bubbling fondue.
