Alphine walking holidays: Enjoy the freedom to roam mountains alone or contact the CAIRN Outdoor Centre 0450344803 and join in their escorted randonnee, escalade or for the brave travel with them to do Haute montagne near Mont Blanc and the Mer de Glace at Chamonix. Alternively use the telecabine panoramic du Mont-Blanc and visit the Ice House. The spring flowers are plentiful mainly orchids and the wild life with a little patience are very close to view. We enjoy taking the mountain train at St Gervais which rattles along the side of the Mont Blanc range offering spectacular views of Aiguille du Midi Vallee Blanche and additional climbs on foot to view the fauna and flora.
Another favourite walk starting in the village is to the Cross of The Seven Brothers. On the ascent one passes an auberge - call in order your meal / drink and it will be ready for you on your descent two hours latter. Guided walks and sightseeing excursions, equipment hire can be arranged with Skilimandjaro.Tennis and golf lessons also.
GLACIER SUMMER SKIING: Experience of a life time. The telecabine lift service runs between 7am and 1pm in Tignes. Average travel time by car is 2-3 hours. There is also an helicopter glacier service across the border in Switzerland, allow an hour by car. For further information contact Skilamandjaro.
Ski:
The new larger gondola telecabine lift system has opened out more connections between the massive and grand massive areas. The massive = 3 green; 14 blue; 9 red; 2 black. Grand massive = 13 green; 41 blue; 56 red; 15 black.
Skier or non skier, enjoy the evening festivities with the vin chaud and jazz parties in the town square.In the summer there are daily games in the square and evening jazz, mime theatre and concerts both in the square and in the church.
For formal lessons I recommend nouvelle dimension ski school (our vouchers) where instructors speak English and have an excellent reputation especially with children. Alternatively Skilimandjaro offer escorted ski / walking days which is an excellent way to explore the network of runs and paths.
Snow boarding, snow walking and cross country lessons are also available for all standards and ages.
The nursery slopes are within walking distance and have 3 short drag lifts. Group and individual ice skating lessons are available
Golf:
The 18 hole golf course at nearby Flaine (10 mins drive) is at 1900 metres and offers outstanding views of the Jura, Belledonne and mount blanc mountain range. The 18 hole golf course at LES Gets is 25 mins drive away. There are no handicap requirements and both beginners and advanced players are made very welcome. Whilst this course is technically demanding and not very long, the course at chamonix is longer and less taxing, that is in my opinion.
