A Wonderful Destination:
Bourg d' Oisans is a holiday resort par excellence! From the world-famous snow-sure ski resorts to quiet mountain villages. You can go hiking, cycling, mountaineering, mountain-biking, horse-riding, skiing, snowboarding, you will never run out of activities or events. The '30 Cyclo Tourisme' guide lists 30 different cycling routes all starting from Bourg d'Oisans, including the 21 hairpin bends to Alpe d'Huez, as well as some less strenuous routes available for all the family. Oisans hosts spectacular mountain bike competitions such as 'Megavalanche' the longest MTB downhill race in the world. The Tour de France and Marmotte cycling race have made it into a cycling Mecca. You can take leisurely cycle rides to the various villages around Bourg d'Oisans.
For some spectacular scenery you should take a cable car from Alp d'Huez to the top of Pic Blanc 3303m, it is amazing!
Activities for Everyone:
There is a beautiful communal outdoor swimming poo with toddler pool and corkscrew slidel, open from June to August. 5 minutes walk from the chalet.
Bourg has a Sports Hall with Squash and Tennis Courts. The village has a small playground for children. In the summer months there is trampolining in the square.
The children's club aged 4 to 14 is open all summer with all sorts of activities, swimming outings, tree climbing and sports tournaments.
If you fancy canoeing, you can do that locally on the River Rive which flows past our chalet.
There are numerous events throughout the Summer months. You will find all sorts of information at our local Tourist Office in the village.
There is a good bus service from Bourg to Alpe d'Huez all year round
Getting to Bourg and Alpe d'Huez:
Our closest airport is Grenoble St. Geoirs which is 56 miles away, about 1 hours drive to Bourg. Ryanair fly all year round and Easyjet in the Winter. We recommend pre-booking car hire or you can take the transfer bus to Grenoble Gare and get a connecting bus to Bourg.
Lyon airport is 85 miles and about 1 1/2 hrs drive to Bourg. British Airways and many low cost airlines fly to Lyon. There is more choice to Lyon from airports in the Midlands and the North.
Grenoble train station and City Centre is 44 miles from Bourg d'Oisans with a number of buses available to the village.
If you prefer to drive, it will take approximately 8 - 9 hours from Calais. It is a very easy drive as it is motorway all the way. The tolls are about 80 Euros each way.
Ski:
Alpe d'Huez is one of the top five high altitude resorts in France with excellent snow records. It is set high in the Grandes Rousses Mountains and is ideal for skiers and snowboarders of every level. There are 240 km of ski runs, including the worlds longest 16 km black run 'La Sarenne' which starts from the top of Pic Blanc at 3330mtrs. 88 interlinked lifts. 39 green runs, 32 blue, 28 red and 19 black runs some of which enable you to ski to the surrounding satellite villages. 2 snowparks & 50 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Indoor and outdoor swimming, ice-skating, tobogganing, snowmobiles, off piste skiing, skiing by night, ice diving or climbing. Excellent mountain access for non-skiers with many marked walks. There is also a fully equipped sports centre with many activities. Plenty of parking space & ski hire shops.
Alpe d'Huez is quite a well-equipped resort for skiers with disabilities. Their ESF instructors are specially trained and have a range of adapted ski equipment.
Golf:
Should you fancy a game of golf, Alpe d'Huez and Les 2 Alps both have 9 hole golf courses, with spectacular views. There are other courses at Grenoble and Auriage.
