Germany’s highest mountain offers many activities in the winter and summer months. Skiing, sledding and snowboarding is very popular between October and May on the mountain. The nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen region has many other ski areas, with more than 70 kilometres of marked trails. Kayaking tours are available in the warmer months on the River Loisach.In the summer hiking is also popular with a number of trails guiding hikers to some magnificent views. Mountaineering is another popular summer pastime for some here with the period between July and September considered the best conditions for climbing. Those who prefer a gentle ride can reach the higher reaches of the mountain by cable car.Numerous restaurants and cafes can be found on the mountainside serving anything from snacks to hot German fare. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drinks from local stores and markets held in the region. Souvenirs and gifts can also be bought at the markets and there is a bigger choice of shops located in some of the larger town of Upper Bavaria.

Visitors to this region will see some fantastic natural features and parks. The Partnach Gorge is one such feature well worth visiting. The Garmisch-Partenkirchen airfield offers a range of paragliding, tandem flying and thermic flying tours over the mountain peaks. Holidaymakers here may like to take a day trip to the bigger towns and cities in the region. For example, Munich is only an hour and 20 minute drive away and features historic buildings and museums. There are some fantastic gardens to visit in Munich as well inlcuding place gardens and the English Garden.
Weather in Zugspitze, Germany
The warmest time to visit this part of Germany is July and August when the maximum high temperature is 24 degrees centigrade, although June is also very warm. The temperature in December, January and February is cold enough to encourage occasional substantial snowfall. Ironically the higher temperatures encourage the most rainfall in the region with June having an average of approximately 105mm rainfall.

Car rental pick up and returns is located outside terminal 1 with Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo, Sixt and Terstappen all operating from here. Bavaria can also be reached by road and rail from Prague, Nuernberg, Linz and Salzburg airports.
