Full service apartments

We provide 'full service' apartments: - the space, comfort and privacy of top quality self catering - the services of a good quality hotel - the friendliness of a B&B

Walking

Wonderful area for walks in the Bavarian Forest - the first German national park and part of the largest range of forested mountains in central Europe. Previously the area was used for hunting and timber industry. Now the forest is being allowed to return to its natural state. Wide range of marked paths, from short circular walks, to longer walks including crossing the border in to the Czech Republic and following the old trading routes for minerals mined in the area. The long distance footpath from the Baltic to Adriatic passes through the village.

Local interest

With neighbouring Bohemia, this is an important area for glass production which can be viewed by following the 'Glasstrasse' or visiting one of the glass shops which are in almost every village and town in the area. It is also a major area for beer, especially the local Dampfbier (steam beer) produced in Zwiesel. The village has the only railway station in Europe which is divided between 2 countries: Germany and Czech Republic.

Skiing Information:

Downhill skiing on the Arber Mountain - 1456 metres high, the highest in the Bavarian Forest and claimed to be the most reliable for snow in Germany. Season is Christmas to end March. The ski bus to the lifts passes the end of the road. For more information please contact us. There are 2 ski schools in the village with some English speaking teachers. All equipment can be hired. Ski lessons and hire rates are very much lower than in alpine resorts. Also a large number of cross country skiing trails including several cross country ski centres nearby. The nearest trail is a few minutes from the house. Good apres ski in Bavarian/Bohemian style! A number of forest paths are available for winter walks.

31.7.07 We have really appreciated all the obvious effort made to create an extra special holiday experience here in Bavaria. Despite 2 weeks here, we have run out of time and hope to return to fill in the gaps. Many thanks for all your advice and especially for the barbecue & schnaps tasting and opportunity to meet your other guests. Gibbins family, UK
30.7.07 This has been the best holiday experience. The house is spacious and relaxing. There has been so much to do that we have not been able to fit it all in. Certainly a place to come back to again. Prew family, UK
21.7.07 We had a wonderful time at Haus Sterr this past week. Margaret and Martin were lovely hosts to 6 confused Americans in Germany. Kania family, USA
16.7.07 Why bother with France when you can come to Bavaria? David, UK
21.7.07 We've had lots of holiday homes in England and France, but none has been a patch on Haus Sterr. Facilities and location are superb. Wagstaff family, UK
