Paleohora, Harbour Apartments & Studio's
Paleohora, is one of those places where sitting with a cup of coffee or a cold beer and watching the world go by, comes as naturally as breathing and our Harbour Apartments and Studios couldn’t be better placed to enjoy this relaxing pastime. They are all air conditioned and double-glazed and are undoubtedly a cut above the relatively simple accommodation normally available in Paleohora. At first and second floor level and situated on the corner of the town’s small harbour, they are literally just a stone’s throw from the picturesque promenade, lined with cafes and tavernas that runs along the seafront to the pebbly beach.
Details for Harbour Studios in Chania area, Crete, Greece
Three of the studios are located off the quadrangle at first floor level and a staircase from here leads to a further two studios at second floor level. The studios have a choice of twin or double beds and all have en-suite shower rooms, fitted wardrobes, dresser with mirror, plus a small kitchenette with 2 ring electric hob and fridge. There's also a small pine dining table and sliding patio doors to a terrace or balcony with patio furniture. An attractive feature of the property is the large communal terrace at the front which overlooks the harbour with really magnificent views of the sea and Crete's White Mountains which are snow capped until June and stunningly beautiful. This terrace is the perfect spot to sunbathe or watch the world go by below and there's also a covered area where you can relax in the shade with a good book and a long cold drink.
Location

This exceptionally laid back village stands on a promontory fringed on one side by a long sandy beach, whilst on the other side a pretty little harbour borders a pebble beach that stretches off into 'the wild blue yonder'. This is just about as far west and far south as you can go in Crete and when the last bus leaves in the evening on its way back over the mountains to Chania, the village tavernas come alive spreading their tables and chairs even further into the narrow main street, which becomes a very atmospheric place to wine and dine, although there are numerous other tavernas to choose from in the back streets or down by the romantic harbour and promenade . Life, as you might expect, is very informal & dressing for dinner normally entails a pair of sandals and shorts plus a top. By day a cossie & straw hat are all that's required and if you are an energetic type you can disappear into the hills that abound with small tracks & footpaths leading to tiny whitewashed villages..
Local activities diving, swimming, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, wind-surfing, water skiing, mountain biking

A day in the life
Paleohora is one of those places where sitting with a cup of coffee or a cold beer and watching the world go by, comes as naturally as breathing and our Harbour Apartments and Studios couldn't be better placed to enjoy this relaxing pastime. If you're an early riser, you can sit on your balcony or the large terrace at the front of the apartments and watch the sun rise out of the sea, with local fishing boats caught in silhouette as they return with their night's catch.
As the morning progresses,
you'll see a ferryboat arriving from Sougia or the remote island of Gavdos and probably check your watch to see if its on time, as it disgorges the usual gaggle of backpackers, walkers and locals all in intriguingly different shapes and sizes. By now the cafes on the promenade are filling up for breakfast, the tourists with their boiled egg, toast and marmalade and fresh orange juice and the odd local fellow, dressed in black, nursing a small cup of coffee. As the day progresses, the sun gets hotter, the cafes empty and the tavernas fill for lunch. People wander slowly past in cossies and sandals with perhaps a towel slung over their shoulder and a ubiquitous local straw hat. In the afternoon, before the arrival of the next ferryboat, the town quietens for siesta time and even the young boys fishing on the harbour-side depart, as the fish too seem to tire and lose interest in the little bits of bread paste turned an enticing pink with taramasalata!
As the sun wanes
the ferry arrives & the town springs to life again, the cafes fill up as tourists return from the beach and the soberly dressed Cretan is there again nursing another small cup of coffee! Later as the sun sets behind you, the sea & mountains turn a soft gold and as dusk approaches, twinkling lights appear & conversations in the cafes become more animated. In the Summer months the temperature cools to a balmy 20°C and the locals & tourists stroll along the promenade in the traditional pre-prandial parade to the strains of muted Greek music wafting gently upwards from a nearby taverna. Later still the cafes & tavernas empty once more & the promenade is deserted, save for the occasional couple strolling hand in hand in the moonlight, with the mountains just a dark shadow on the horizon.
Other Activities Flower Walks, Whale Watching & Cycling Tours
Golf Information:
Crete on Two Wheels Sougia & Irini Gorge Bike & Hike is the motto of the day. We start from the Plain of Omalos, high in the White Mountains at 1200m (3900 ft.) and descend through incredible scenery towards the south coast. At the entrance to the Agia Irini Gorge we switch into hiking mode and continue on foot through a dramatic landscape, spiced with the scent of thyme and sage. Lunch and a swim in the Libyan Sea at Sougia revive us for an afternoon's bike ride through Crete's greenest valleys. 43km inc. 36km downhill & 2.5 hours hiking.

Mr & Mrs P Gray - Harbour Apartment 1 - May 2003
It was wonderful to be back at the Harbour Apartments. There may be a more perfect place than the terrace of Apartment 1 on this earth, but we don't know of it! The new cane canopy is a great improvement on the sunshade. We hope we shall return.
Annette Watts - Harbour Studio - August 2003
Now that everything is unpacked and the washing completed I wanted to say how much we both enjoyed our holiday. The apartments were delightful and well appointed. We were well cared for during our stay. The location and views from the Harbour Apartments were absolutely ideal and we must have been the envy of many holidaying in Paleohora. Everything we needed was within reach and we so enjoyed watching the world go by from our balcony.
