This traditional stone house is in a small village high in the Dikti mountains of south-east Crete. The house has been newly renovated and has authentic Greek furniture. French doors from the sitting room and bedroom 1 lead on to a large terrace with spectacular sea and mountain views. The kitchen is fully equipped in an unfitted traditional Greek style. The bathroom is large with a walk-in shower. Bedroom 2 has twin beds and a cot available. The sitting room has a traditional stone arch and a sofa-bed. There is a TV and DVD player.

Krevatas is a small village in the Dikti mountains untouched by tourism. There are many beaches to explore on this stretch of coast and it is possible even in August to find a small deserted cove. There are many restaurants to choose from nearby and the prices are much lower than on the north coast. The village of Tertsa situated on the beach 20 minutes drive away is like Greece must have been 30 years ago, small and friendly with Greek families gathering there on the weekends for lunch. Arvi a 15 minute drive away has beach front restaurants, a monastery and a large gorge to explore. There is a pretty low-key resort 20 minutes drive away called Myrtos. There are lots of restaurants to choose from, a lovely beach and water-sports.

  • The bathroom is very large compared to most bathrooms you will find in Greece. It is tiled throughout in blue and white and has a large walk-in shower. As the house is newly renovated the bathroom is modern and very clean.

  • Bedroom 1 has an antique double cast-iron bed. There is a wooden wardrobe, large mirror and antique table. There are French doors with shutters that lead on to the large terrace. There are lovely views to the sea from the bedroom and the walls have exposed stone work. The floor has large cool terracotta tiles. Bedroom 2 has twin beds and there is also a cot available. The room is tastefully decorated and although spacious has a very cosy feel to it. There is a large chest of drawers for storage. There is also a basket of toys and buckets and spades for the beach.

Notes: The kitchen has a traditional fireplace. The sitting room has lovely views to the sea and mountains, French doors lead on to the large terrace where there is a table and chairs and large Greek urns. There is a large garden to the front of the terrace which sweeps up around the side of the house. The garden is stocked with olive, fig, orange and almond trees. It is a safe environment for children to play in and the very friendly neighbours will stop to say 'Kalimera' and give you fruits or nuts that they have picked.

The Mountains: There are many tracks for cycling and walking. There is an abundance of bird life particularly in early summer, vultures can be seen circling the very top of the mountains. To get to the beaches nearby means driving along mountain roads where the scenery is breath-taking, along the way you will pass old ladies gathering herbs and see people on donkeys going about their daily business.

Viannos: The nearby town of Viannos is a ten minute drive away and has a bank, cash point and post-office. It is a working town with interesting shops and a beautiful church. There are restaurants and cafes here.
