The private walled terrace has a purpose built barbecue and a covered dining terrace, with a large wooden dining table and space for all. A door leads directly into the spacious kitchen equipped with large fridge freezer, stainless steel hob, eye level built-in microwave, dishwasher and open fireplace. With lovely wood panelled ceilings and creamy stone archways, the comfortably furnished living room, originally the oil pressing room, has leather sofas, a TV with Sat reception, DVD, CD player and a fireplace. A ground floor bathroom has a hydro bath with shower over and washing machine. All three bedrooms on the first floor have balconies, TV and ample wardrobe space. The master bedroom has a 4 poster bed and marble steps leading directly to the pool terrace. There is also a second double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with hydro bath. The 9m x 5m pool has roman steps and a children's pool.

The hamlet of Metochi

was once just a simple farming community embracing 6 or 7 houses tucked away in the countryside 1km from Maleme and 1.5km from the sea. In recent times many of the old houses have been renovated but the hamlet retains its tranquil aura and sense of community making it perfect base for a quiet holiday, yet still within easy striking distance of Chania and a choice of lovely beaches strung along the coast. Lefteri’s House dates back to the 19th century and this rambling old farmhouse has been carefully restored to reveal much of the original stonework which together with all mod cons and some lovely furnishings, provides the ultimate in comfort and 21st century chic. From the parking area to the side of the property a gateway opens into a high walled courtyard and the inviting 8m x 4m pool with integral children’s pool and surrounded by generous sun terraces where there is also a purpose built barbecue.

Two covered archways provide shaded entrances

to the house as well as cool spots to retreat to in the heat of the day. Inside, the elegant living area comes complete with a fireplace, satellite TV, CD player and two sofas. From here a stone archway leads through to the modern and beautifully appointed kitchen, with stainless steel cooker & hob, large fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and dining table. A door from the kitchen leads out to the covered archway overlooking the pool, a perfect spot to linger over a barbecued lunch and equipped with its own dining table and chairs. At first floor level are two double and one twin bedroom, all with wood panelled ceilings and beautifully furnished. The twin and one of the double rooms have patio doors to their own terraces overlooking the pool, whilst the master double bedroom boasts a four poster bed, as well as its own small fridge and patio doors to an open terrace with a flight of marble steps, patrician style, leading directly down to the pool.

The three bedrooms share two bathrooms

one at ground floor and one at first floor level. Both are equipped with turbo massage baths and the ground floor bathroom also contains a washing machine. Kyria Joanna, Lefteris mother lives next door in the unconverted part of the property, but you are unlikely to know she is there unless you are lucky enough to meet her, in which case you will probably be invited inside to sample her delicious home made cheese pies (koulourakia) , probably washed down with her equally delicious home made lemonade… You will probably meet Lefteris as he looks after the pool and lives nearby with his wife and daughter. In his spare time Lefteris likes to go sea fishing with rod and line and knows all the best spots along the north and west coasts of Crete. Unlike many fishermen he doesn’t just boast but actually catches some rather large fish (sea bass and sea bream in in particular) and his dear mother usually ends up cleaning and cooking them
