Messinia (Messenia) is a prefecture of Greece on the eastern side of the Peloponnese, neighboured by the impressive Mount Taygetus to the west. Stoupa is one of the most exciting beach resorts in Messinia, recently having greatly increased its tourist facilities. Everything you could wish for from a beach holiday is provided in Stoupa, including over 20 restaurants, serving both traditional cuisine and international dishes.

Koroni lies at the head of the bay, and like Stoupa, has become a favourite with British and German tourists, although it is still relatively quiet. Standing in the shadow of an impressive Venetian Castle, Koroni has the great appeal of having a little of everything. You can spend a lazy day on the beaches or wandering the streets looking at some of the fine monuments around the town, and enjoy the lively nightlife as the sun sets.

The picturesque town of Agios Nikolaos sits on the side of a ‘bottomless’ lake, which was connected to the sea in 1867 to help stop the water becoming stagnant. The surrounding countryside is perfect for walkers as there are some delightful view points to be found as well as many points of interest.

Finikounda is a perfect location to take a rental property for a romantic holiday in Messinia. It is a small fishing village with access to three glorious beaches, and brimming with Greek personality.

Messinia shares a similar climate to Athens, with slightly warmed conditions throughout the year, averaging around 32˚C in summer and 10˚C in the winter. However, snow cover is common on the peaks of Mount Taygetus during the winter months.
