The apartment is the ground floor of a detached, two-storey house, which dates from the late 17th. Century. It is set in terraced gardens with mature trees and flowers, overlooking the beautiful, historic town of Nafplion (the first capital of modern Greece). From the apartment patio there are magnificent views across the town and harbour towards the mountains. Nafplion has good access by road, rail and sea (Athens airport is two hours by road) and is an excellent centre for touring the Peloponnese with its delightful beaches, spectacular scenery and many archaeological sites (e.g. Mycenae, Olympia, Nemea, Epidaurus are all within easy reach). The town has its own charming beach five minutes' walk from the house, several museums, art galleries, theatres, open-air cinema, three castles and an annual classical music festival.

The Apartment is the ground floor of the 2-storey building with its own 2 entrances. It comprises 2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom and an open-plan room with lounge (plus sofa-bed), dining and kitchen areas, all tastefully furnished and fully equipped for round-the-year living. It has its own patio/garden area with mature trees and flowers, garden furniture and a barbecue. The views from the patio above the harbour, towards the mountains are spectacular. The position is quiet and secluded, yet shops and tavernas are only minutes away. Please note the house is approached by steps which make it unsuitable for the disabled and may prove difficult to the elderly.

Nafplion, one of Greece's most beautiful towns, is situated at the top, sheltered end of the Argolic Gulf, sitting astride its own small peninsular, with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. By car, it is one hour from Tripoli, forty minutes from Corinth, and ten minutes from Argos. Its long history is evident in attractive period buildings, narrow bougainvillea-filled streets, and a wide range of shops, tavernas and museums. It is perfect for those who want both a beach and historical holiday. The apartment is in a quiet part of the old town, yet very close to all the amenities.

There is parking space in the street adjacent to the house. Normally the apartment is ready for occupancy at 12 noon on arrival day and clients are asked to vacate at 10 am on departure day. The house: The house is very attractively restored, blending modern and period features. Around it are small, terraced gardens with mature lemon and olive trees and flowering shrubs, and it is always possible to sit outside in sun or shade. The ground floor apartment has split level marble floors in the kitchen/dining and sitting areas and is generously furnished and equipped. The bathroom is in marble and includes the washing-machine. A small library of fiction and books on Greece is in the sitting area. The town's many shops and taverns are a couple of minutes away on foot, and the house has beautiful views over the town itself, the harbour and the mountains of the Argolid.

Nafplion: Nafplion is often described as the loveliest and most sophisticated town in Greece. With its busy harbour front, narrow streets overhung by bougainvillea and many historically important buildings, it provides a perfect centre for the holiday-maker and tourist without being over-commercialised or spoiled by modern development. Nafplion has both sand and stone beaches, pleasant seaside walks and is close to major archaeological sites. NB for 2 weeks of the year poetry workshops are held at the house. Contact owner

The Area: The Argolid qualifies as Greece's best kept secret. The ancient home of great civilisations, it combines its rich archaeological remains with lovely scenery, hundreds of miles of beautiful coastline and a wonderful climate. And it is not overrun by tourists! And all this only two hours from Athens International Airport.

Nafplion is a delightful and historic town, with excellent facilities,good access to ancient sites and is the perfect homebase for exploring the Peloponnese and nearby islands. Your apartment was the best we have encountered in some weeks of travelling Europe: we felt very much at home. It is situated in a convenient but quiet location and has a great deal of charm, besides being spacious, comfortable and well-appointed.

Superb appartment in old Nafplion

Superb location - close to beautiful old Naflion and very close to a lovely beach (5 mins walk), lovely terrace, spectacular views, first class facilities, clean, and very well maintained.

Very comfortable for 5 people. Our parents (age 70 +) did not find the stairs a problem.

Nafplion is an ideal base to explore Greece. During a week there we went to Epidavros, Mycenae, Athens and Korynth but also had time to relax on the lovely beach.

A car is useful but not essential there is a bus station withing a walking distance.

The Perfect Greek Holiday!

We received our recommendation for the property from two generations of family friends who had stayed at the apartment on two separate occasions...word-of-mouth being the best recommendation! The location and views were perfect, the apartment was clean, well appointed and a comfortable "home away from home." The owners are delightful and abundantly gracious. We used this location for our base in widely exploring the Peloponnese, as well as a day trip to the islands of Hydra and Spetses. Perfectly located for day trips to a large number of chosen sights. The caution regarding the number of stairs that could prove challenging for the disabled or elderly is appropriate, but we enjoyed our stay immensely and hope to return!
