The village of Kastro is tiny with a handful of year-round residents but proudly boasts one taverna serving local dishes and wines and a delightful cafe adjacent to the castle, famous for its welcome and homemade food. The village wakes to the sound of cicadas under the vines and the arrival of the bread man making his deliveries. If you wave at the gate you can buy freshly made bread from the back of his van and our next door neighbour will be pleased to sell you his own honey.
The views from here are truly wonderful with fantastic walks all around the area: the landscape varying from gentle rolling hillsides to the rugged slopes of Mount Aenos. Argostoli, where you will find everything you could need, is a 15 minute drive. There is an excellent market and you can buy fish straight from the boats. We are lucky to have the best beaches in Kefalonia to choose from, both St Thomas and Avithos are 10 minutes away. The house is a 20 minute drive from the airport.
