The Vassilikos peninsular is at the south-eastern end of Zakynthos. Away from, but easily accessible by car to the commercial resorts with their lively nightlife, water sports, and all you would expect. Zakynthos Town is a wonderful mixture of Venetian and typically Greek island architecture, offering many restaurants, shops, museums and all other amenities, including hospital, banks, post office etc. Day trips by boat are available to the mainland, Cephallonia and also to more secluded beaches around the island. It's also possible to go sailing. The northern end of the island is mountainous and rugged, and dotted with small villages less influenced by tourism. The island has an excellent road network and is ideal for walking excursions. From May till October there are direct flights to Zakynthos from most UK airports, and from Athens throughout the year. The island can also be reached by ferry from the mainland, with connections from Athens by coach.
