Porto Heli:
The pretty village of Porto Heli lies around the loveliest natural bay in the Peloponnese. It faces the island of Spetses and the mountains across the Argo-Saronic gulf. Easily accessible from Athens either by road or hydrofoil.
There are some excellent restaurants and tavernas in the village as well as a good variety of bars and clubs.
The sheltered bays are ideal for water sports and there are two excellent ski schools, as well as qualified tuition in wake-boarding, wind-surfing, dinghy sailing, and scuba diving.
Places to visit:
In the Peloponnese you can visit many of the ancient sites of Greece, most within easy reach. These include the ancient theatre at Epidaurus, where performances are still held in the summer months. Nafplion, a very attractive town and the first capital city of Greece.It is dominated by a medieval castle. Agamemnon's palace at Mycenae and the impressive walls at Tiryns.
If you take to the sea, then the islands of Spetses, Hydra and Poros each have their own special beauty and character. There is a regular hydrofoil service from the village as well as ferries and water taxis.
When to visit:
The summer months are the liveliest in the village and on the beaches. It is a wonderful area for all kinds of watersports. From water-skiing with professional coaches, slalom courses and ski-jump to sailing, windsurfing, wake boarding or just pottering along the coast in a rented boat.
For less energetic break the loveliest days for walking and exploring are in the quieter months.
Springtime the colour and variety of the wild flowers is amazing, you can walk for hours enjoying the peaceful scenery. Autumn the clarity of light is extraordinary, if you are interested in painting or exploring the ancient sights, this is the time to visit.
