Sea and Mountains, gourmet restaurants, and comfortable home

Luxury holiday home, duplex in heart of Medieval village, on the shores of Carlingford Lough with the Cooley Mountains on the doorstep and the Mountains of Mourne in sight. Slieve Foy Lodge is a newly built block of apartments in the centre of the village. This was the show apartment, and has been beautifully decorated and fitted out. Outside there is a large balcony, plenty of space for alfresco dining and barbecuing. It is south facing, and has the sun all day. The main living room is decorated in shades of pale yellows, gold and terracotta. Off the Living Room is a fully fitted oak kitchen with everything required for home cooking. On this floor too is a bathroom and a big utility room, for storage of walking, golfing, sailing, and horse-riding equipment. Upstairs, the Mournes Bedroom and the Slieve Foy Bedroom are decorated to reflect the changing colours of the mountains. There are two bathrooms on this floor and an airing cupboard with extra linens and towels.

Carlingford Today

The village is vibrant with nine great restaurants, seven pubs, and good shopping for home cooking, The butchers pride themselves on the quality of the locally reared lamb and beef. Carlingford Oysters are famous too. There is music in almost all the pubs at the weekend and a disco in the local hotel for the 'young at heart'. Guide to the area supplied with each booking. It is also one of the most active villages in Ireland with walking and sailing very popular. The Carlingford Adventure centre runs courses all year round for both land and water-based activities.

Events

During the year and not just in high season, there are many activities taking place in and around the village. Walking tours are available most weekends and there is a guide who can be hired locally for private tours and trips. The Heritage Centre often has talks, recitals and musical events. For children there is a lovely playground, and they can explore the castles and ruins of the ancient abbey. There are public tennis courts in the village, that anyone can use. Carlingford is a living village, not just a holiday destination.

Within an Hour of the Village

Newgrange - the 3,000 BC buriel chambers, Proleek Dolmen - Standing stones., Hill of Tara - seat of the High Kings of Ireland, Battle of the Boyne site and the Boyne Drive, 15 Golf Courses, Mountains of Mourne - great for walking - maps supplied too, Slieve Gullion Forest Drive, Mellifont Abbey - first Cistercian monastery in Itreland, 1142, Trim Castle - used in the movie Braveheart - largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland 1172.

Other Activities Adventure centre in Village for children and adults

Muse on Carlingford by Bernadette Scales

Sky reflected in the sea,
Turquoise, blue and green,
Skeleton castle, grey and white,
Interior black as night.

Golden sun lights the mountain above,
Purple, green and red,
Silver mist gliding in from the sea,
Shading a lone ship.

Late Autumn leaves, surround my feet,
In a soft breeze, they shiver,
They seem to murmur a lonely song,
Tis time. We must be gone, be gone.

What rides the bright and rolling waves
Who’s everlasting soul therein?
Strong fishermen on white horses,
Tis said, the knights with their lonely king.

Sun sails behind the mountain,
And I too shall be gone,
Praise to you lovely Carlingford,
In story, poem and song.
