Lovely house in a lovely location

Manx-Travellers Isle of Man
Review Submitted: September 16, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We stayed at Fernhill lodge during a cracking week in September - we being myself, the wife and two small boys (3 years and 7 months). First off, the house is very large. All the rooms are big, the main bedrooms are enormous and you can play hide and seek in the living room - honest!

Pat and his wife have made sure there is everything you could want for in the house - right down to the little things like a blender and cafetiere. Everything in the house is also of top quality and the beds are incredibly comfortable. If there was one criticism it would be the hot water which uses an old fashioned immersion heater/tank and was constantly running out of hot water for a family of four. However, one of the two showers is electric so you always have hot water to wash in.

The location is also brilliant. The house sits within generous grounds. There is a large garden to the front, a huge yard at the back and out-buildings containing the games room. To either side is active farmland and we saw rabbits and foxes wandering around. The area is very much agricultural but the nearest town is a 3 mile drive and it has pubs, take-ways, an excellent supermarket, butchers, bakery etc. Everything you need. We actually did our shopping on-line with Tesco before we set off and it was delivered just after we arrived (top tip!).

There is loads to see and do within an hours drive. We went to an open farm near Craigavon, the Exploris Aquarium at Portaferry and Castle Ward over at strangford lough.

All in all we had a brilliant week, the boys really enjoyed themselves and we would be more than happy to return.

A Haven of Rest

nithsdale lass Dumfriesshire Scotland
Review Submitted: February 27, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
In the heart of county down, each window providing a picture postcard view. The kitchen one especially, of the Mourne mountains. The bungalow was spotless and very well maintained. The owner, Pat and sister-in-law Anne(who left scones, butter and home-made rhubarb jam for our arrival) could not have been nicer, very welcoming, friendly and went out their way to make our stay very enjoyable. Best day was going to Newcastle. Go to Rathfriland, take Hilltown then go through mountains to Kilkeal passing Spelga dam then from Kilkeal to Newcastle, beautiful scenery. Don't bother cooking as you can buy cooked food at supermarket in Rathfriland - well worth it and cheaper than you could make!
House has just had a new toilet/ shower room installed with power shower. Two bathrooms is a lot easier.
New factory outlet in Banbridge worth a visit. Definitely would recommend to anyone. County Down more beautiful than I imagined. Stayed 14-21/2/09
