The Phoenix is situated in Castletownshend on the South West coast of Ireland, 52 miles west of Cork City. The drive from Cork ferry or airport takes approximately one and half hours on the main N71 road. The drive passes through beautiful countryside and lovely Irish towns and villages, such as Clonakilty and Ross Carbery. A longer drive can be taken along the coast visiting Kinsale and beautiful Irish seaside bays and inlets such as Glandore. Castletownshend is the most Anglo Irish village in Ireland with the best sheltered harbour in West Cork. It's origins date back to the 17th century so fine Georgian houses are mixed with stone cottages. It has retained a village atmosphere with a shop and two pubs, one of which serves excellent meals. There is a public tennis court and children's playground within a 3 minute walk from the Phoenix. There are three separate quays within a 5 minute walk, all with beach access to the sea. Larger sandy beaches are 2 miles away.

Fishing Village Cottage
Travelin'Gram, Cardiff-By-The-Sea,Calif. USA
Review Submitted: August 26, 2008, Date of stay: July, 2008
With my son,daughter-in-law and niece, I spent a wonderful week in Castletownsend, mid-way through our three week vacation. The location was a perfect base for our explorations of Cork and Kerry Counties, yet far enough away from crowded tourist locations to allow us to feel part of the friendly neighborhood. We all really appreciated the feeling of belonging, which made the visit a lot of fun.
While planning for this summer's trip to Ireland, we all agreed that the owner described a property and area that would be a perfect answer to our diverse preferences.
The "cottage" exceeded our expectations. The large home offered every amenity and both the owner and local property agent were very easy to work with. The nearby pubs and small store would have made it possible to spend the entire week in the village without leaving had we not been a more adventurous group with a need to explore as much as possible.
While sharing trip photos with friends and relatives, most askd how we found such a chaming place and I recommended a visit to the website.
