Stunningly appointed coastal cottage with superb views
'Setanta' which we reckon has the best views in Baltimore, has been refurbished in May 2003, with the addition of a wonderful sun room affording amazing views both to seaward and hillside. The perfect place to relax, enjoy the view, read or just chill out. But if you want a bit more activity, its just ten min walk to the village, where there's plenty to engage the visitor: three sailing schools, many sea sports, angling, diving, walking and hiking, swimming pool in local hotel, horse riding nearby, golf. Sherkin Island is 15 mins. by ferry, Cape Clear a little further. And when it comes to eating and drinking, there are many excellent bars and restaurants. Without a doubt, we reckon we have a gem in 'Setanta'. Come and enjoy!

| Notes: | The house is not ideal for toddlers or very young children as there is quite a drop from the gable. However there is a railing around the balcony area for protection. It is suitable for elderly people as the views are wonderful with plenty activity to enjoy in the harbour, whilst the area is quiet. But there's a hill down to the village which elderly or infirm would find difficult to walk. There is a sloped ramp entrance to the cottage - not wheelchair access as such - but this should be easy to negotiate. However, the boreen into the property is uneven and unsuited to wheelchairs. Ideally I also prefer non-smokers and only extremely well behaved pets who sleep outside! |
BALTIMORE
Started life as a fishing village, and fishing still plays a major role in the local economy: as is evidenced on the menus of the numerous delicious fish restaurants. But its not all fish - the meat is excellent too and vegetarians have plenty to choose from. Village has many bars and eateries to suit every pocket and age group from prawns to pizza. There are many local festivals covering such diverse gatherings as the O'Driscoll Clan get together, the Mussel Festival as well as Vintage Cars and Wooden Boats. In early August we have the Regatta.
Baltimore is perfect for trips to the islands, Sherkin and Cape Clear (which is a Gaeltacht or Irish speaking area); Kerry is about 90 mins. drive away. Make sure to include a trip to the lovely town of Kenmare, visit its local bookshops and eat in one of its excellent restaurants, pubs or hotels. Cork is also not far away if you want to do some serious shopping; however there are many local craft shops in West Cork, selling knitwear, pottery or luxury food items.
But the best thing about Baltimore is the friendliness of the people, who are eclectic, perhaps some say even eccentric. So come and enjoy: you will certainly not be bored. You'll have the holiday of a lifetime!

Our ideal holiday home
meglet, Dublin Ireland
Review Submitted: June 07, 2008, Date of stay: July, 2007
We fell in love with this place back in 1999 and it has become our annual holiday home ever since. The location of the house is perfect with views to die for and within walking distance of the village.
Baltimore is perfect for the keen sailor. We spend alot of time on the water visiting the neighouring islands.
The house is well equiped for a family. The living areas are very spacious and well appointed. The sleeping quarters and bathroom are less luxurious but perfectly adequate for a holiday stay. The sleeping quarters might be a little crammed for a family with older teenagers.
Eating out in Ireland is expensive for families and we eat in most of the time. The kitchen is small but has everything you would want for self catering.
Owner's response:
Thanks for the review. Look forward to having you back as usual this summer.
