The cottages offer a wonderful holiday experience giving a glimpse of an Ireland few visitors see. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this rolling countryside. High above them stands Croagh Patrick, Ireland's Holy Mountain with Ballintubber and Cong Abbey being some of the attractions in this area. This is also a fisherman's dream with trout fishing on nearby Loughs Mask and Carra. The busy town of Westport with its famous pubs, craft shops and restaurants and the bustling town of Castlebar are just short 15 minute trips. These cottages are located well off the beaten track so having a car is essential. It's well worth phoning ahead to get detailed directions from the owners. The site descriptions are very accurate thouugh the lake view is somewhat more distant than you might expect from the title.

The best things about the cottages are their condition and location - they are kept immaculately clean and well equipped. The owners are extremely helpful and in our case had a welcome parcel of basic provisions waiting for us.

However the great attraction is their location - perfect for getting away from it all - yes all - or as a base for exploring Mayo. In one unstressed weekend we were able to explore the Partry Mountains, Westport, Achill and down as far as Leenane. With more time we would have travelled to North Mayo and taken in the Ceide fields but that would have been too much in a long weekend.

I would highly recommend them for a weekend or week away. The remoteness might prove too much for two weeks, particularly in bad weather.
