Marston Cottage is a charming, beautifully renovated two bedroom cottage -- with a separate one bedroom cottage beside -- with beautiful gardens set directly on the Blackwater River, The Blackwater is the most beautiful and salmon rich river in Ireland, and also full of lush golf courses, equestrian centers, and wonderful walks. Martson Cottage is a haven of tranquility and privacy, yet without isolation -- the Dublin/Cork motorway is but ten miles away, and the famous historic town of Lismore, with fine restaurants, is within five miles. The Blackwater Lodge with tackle shop, is 60 seconds away, and the charming, unspoilt and welcoming village of Balllyduff is within one mile. Marston Cottage is a perfect base for touring the south of Ireland, but is filled with the peace of the Blackwater River, an acre of lovely gardens, and delightful views to the Knockmealdown Mountains. The owner is a writer and author of Lonely Planet's celebrated travel memoir Jaywalking with the Irish.

We are 5 minutes to heritage town of Lismore with famous castle and gardens, many restaurants, galleries, pubs, literary festivals, and music, and half hour to bustling Dungarven with its beautiful beaches. Ballyduff has good restaurant, old world pubs, summer theatre (and many ghillies). Lush golf courses are nearby and famous links half hour. Historic sites, country houses with fine dining, lovely walks and bicycling, equestrian centers and stud farms all around -- we border a gorgeous one of 1,000 acres. We have 300 feet riverfront , only 1 of 4 houses from Fermoy to Lismore to do so, Blackwater's tributaries offer trout fishing. Bustling Cork City is 45 minutes on motorway, Kinsale and and West Cork 75 minutes. Fermoy offers leisure centre with swimming and cave tours in nearby Mitchelstown. Both Blackwater Valley and surrounding forests and mountains offer great walks. Midleton Distilleries 30 minutes, Cobh Heritage Museum 45 minutes. Privacy without isolation is Marston Cottage!

Marston Cottage was our home for the month of July. The grounds are beautiful, the home spacious,and the hiking, especially the 3/4 mile to the enchanting village of Ballyduff, was most memorable. We had house guests come to stay and the guest house, with spacious accomodation, made everyone comfortable. An ample kitchen, dining room and backyard made barbecuing a joy. Many fine country restaurants are within 20 minute drives.

The area is filled with breath taking scenery and convenient to Cork, Lismore and a few inspiring mountain ranges. The swift running Blackwater river is right there by the property and we watched the anglers casting for salmon. We picked strawberries and rhubarb from the owner's garden. We certainly felt at home and the owner was gracious and available to answer any questions about the area and things to do.
