Totally rebuilt stone house on 12 acres of farmland,. Very comfortable, modern and bright home which retains a traditional feel. It looks across two valleys & has beautiful & ever-changing views, both of distant mountains and touch- close heather covered hills. The property is accessed up a short country lane & has its own private gated avenue. There is a stoned yard surrounding the house, with parking space. It has a large south facing veranda where one can spend time gazing into the distance & listening to the sounds of the countryside. At night the hum of the river gets louder and (weather permitting) you are guaranteed an incredible view of the night sky. This house and its idyllic setting will charm even the most jaded traveller. It is an ideal holiday location for nature lovers, hill walkers, writers & anyone who wants to get away from it all and simply enjoy the quiet beauty of the countryside!

Wicklow Way, hill walking, Glendalough, historic sights. A river runs along the bottom of the farm, as well as a national walkway - The Wicklow Way. It stretches south to Carlow and as far north as Dublin right through the spectacular gorges and glens of the Wicklow mountains. Walks range from easy strolls to difficult climbs. The historic valley of Glendalough, with its round tower and monastic ruins, is 30 minute drive away. Nearest villages are 3 miles on either side & the large towns of Carlow, Kilkenny & its castle & Arklow's beach are a pleasant drive through open green countryside. Powerscourt House & gardens, Jerpoint Abbey and the historic Wicklow jail must be seen. Dublin, presently the busiest capital in Europe is only an hour’s drive away. You can have the best of both worlds by spending some of your days in Dublin & the rest exploring the hauntingly beautiful country landscape that Ireland is famous for. Friendly pubs, excellent food, and fresh unpolluted air abound.

The farm is home to a large variety of wildlife, rabbits, foxes, many varieties of small birds. Sheep and cattle, farm machinery cutting crops etc. The trails are great for exploring the common land and enjoying the huge range of flora & fauna that grows in the wild. Nowhere better on a clear night for young stargazers! This is an opportunity to educate your children in a relaxed way and enjoy a.most memorable family holiday. However, if you just want to sit back indoors and let the children run wild for a week, this house will not suit. Easy access to large open spaces, trees, river, etc. means that children need adult company to ensure their own safety, and avoid damage to the proper.

Wicklow Farmhouse

Review Submitted: October 14, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
very comfortable location - remote, yet close to small town and accessible to the entire east coast area. Good communication with owners at all times. They met us in town to be sure we could find the house as it is up several small roads and the final driveway would surely be missed by a new comer to the area. Owners are very accomodating and make you feel right at home. Views of surrounding farmland and hills is stunning and very relaxing. Wickow Way trail very near property that you can access for nice walks. Modern amenities in house are nice. Showers are small but tubs are large. Kitchen is large and nice to cook in. Property was well maintained and comfortable to stay in. We used the house as a base for two weeks in Ireland. The owners provided a nice and convenient suggestion for us to travel to Dublin, and gave us directions to park outside of the city and told us which bus to take in. We would not have figured it out without their help and it made the trip into Dublin very easy. Travel to Dublin was 60-75 minutes. Golfing is very near and we played five courses which were all about 30-60 minutes away. Incredible courses with excellent views of forests, rivers, lakes and the ocean. When I travel, I like cozy down bedding with very comfy pillow top mattresses adn big fluffy pillows- the beds were functional and comfortable but not overwhelming 'cozy'. 3 rooms had twin beds and one a double - a queen would have been nice, but the farmhouse has small rooms. Maybe more a matter of personal opinion vs a dislike. The large dining, kitchen andl living room area are very warm. The heating in the house is very comfortable. You can hear rain on the windows at night which is pleasant. I would recommend this highly.

Wonderful secluded stay

Review Submitted: October 31, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
We spent over a week at this location. The house and guest house were incredibly clean and well maintained. It is a wonderful spot for relaxing with a beautiful view and great accommodations. It is a bit isolated for long outings but once you set the GPS you're fine! We were able to do and see many fantastic sites from as far as County Meath and County Waterford to as close as the Vale of Avoca, Browne's Hill Dolmen, and Glendalough. Great restaurant - 'Wicklow Heather' near Glendalough. We were absolutley delighted with our choice. The owners were fantastic and available when needed. We'd love to return today and would absolutely recommend it!

Owner's Response: GPS is a very good idea when holidaying in rural Ireland as junctions on minor roads are not always signposted, nor is there always someone around to give directions, It removes the risk of getting lost on the maze of back-roads(and the bother of trying to read road-maps), and gives everyone a chance to properly enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Our guest house provides a lot of extra space and privacy. It consists of a large double bedroom and shower-room. Because it is completely separate and has its own entrance door, this house allows guests peace and quite, even when the main property is very busy. It is an option worth considering if there are two distinct units in your party i.e.family with small children holidaying with grandparents.

sometimes you hit the jackpot

Review Submitted: September 11, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
Sometimes you hit the jackpot. In this case not money, but one of the finest holiday homes we've ever stayed in. We were with our 3 children for the first time in the Wicklow mountains, one of the most beautifull area's in Europe. My wife and I fell in love with the wicklow mountains many years before, now the kids too. (3 boys)
The house is on top of a small hill with a stunning view! Mary told people live there for 400 years! And now we understand why! The house has everything you wished for. Space, enough rooms, great large playground for the kids and it's quiet. When you want to escape the day to day madness and search for being alone with your family, this is the house! NO DOUBT!
Enough to do in the area, Tinahely a small village nearby, with all the basics you need.
The area is great for walks, kids played in the river nearby, and enjoyed every minute being there. They never missed their playstation, phones or TV, they never asked for them!! so much they enjoyed being there.
We never go back to a house we've stayed in, but this house is breaking that rule. We will be back!
Mary thanks for giving us such a great holiday, to share this house and not keep it only for yourself.

Owner's Response: My pleasure Leo and family. Its wonderful to hear you had a great time in Wicklow. We leave the house the way we like to find it because we genuinely want our guests to get as much value out of our home as we do. Special places should be shared!

Our Stay

Review Submitted: October 26, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We had a wonderful time . Traveling with 2 children and 2 close friends we couldn't have found a better spot .
It was child friendly with every amenity one would want - important traveling with 2 younger children and important traveling with two foodies ( our friends love to cook ) . The house was big enough for all of us with a TV room and separate game room upstairs . We took the extra room to give our friends some private space although we need not have .
The owners were wonderful , they gave us the run down of the house , suggested local walks ( the house is right on a hiking trail ) they even supplied us with basic necessities until we could stock up . We did a lot of sightseeing around Wicklow and the Dublin area and always found the house welcoming to come back to .

Peaceful, rural holiday house

Review Submitted: October 16, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This was a well equipped, clean & spacious holiday home. The facilities in the house were first class. The outdoor space was beautiful and extremely child friendly. The owners were extremely helpful on arrival and provided much information to help us find our way around Ireland. The location is quite remote and perfect for those who want to "get away from it all " but located perfectly to explore the rest of Ireland. The local village was small but had many shops so grocery shopping was not a problem. This is a perfect holiday accomodation for those who enjoy the countryside and a peaceful holiday but want to enjoy it in extreme comfort! I would recommend this property - suitable for families and large groups.
