Further details for this holiday house rental in County Kerry, Ireland

Golf: Dooks, at 10 km, a links course overlooking Dingle Bay, recently substantially remodelled. Killarney, at 40km, two 18 hole championship courses, Killeen and Mahoney’s Point, and a further 18 hole course. At 50 km, outside Tralee, a sensational links course overlooking some of the finest scenery in Ireland. At 35km, west from the house along the Ring of Kerry, Waterville, a links course assessed by Golf World as the 5th best course in the British Isles. Ballybunnion, at 85km, two championship links courses (the Old and the New courses).

Walking: The Kerry way runs past the front gate. This is a waymarked walking way running for 215 km round the Iveragh Peninsular. It takes you through glorious scenery, without being too strenuous or difficult. For walkers looking for a greater challenge, the house looks out towards the western end of the Glenbeigh horseshoe, and walking up the incline behind the house you eventually get to the summit of Drung Hill. From there you take in a wonderful Atlantic view and then walk along a ridge at around 2000 feet for the 25 km hike to end up in the village of Glenbeigh. There are countless other local walks, one of the favourites being to the end of Rossbeigh Strand and back, the circuit taking roughly two hours. The owners' library contains books and other details of walks.

Fishing: Local waters abound with skate, shark (many species, from little frilled sharks to potentially man-eating blues), ling, cod, conger, pollock, monkfish, coalfish, dogfish, mackerel and many more. Even tuna is brought to Kerry waters by the Gulf Stream. Local fishing grounds hold many Irish Sea Fishing Records. Local skippers take fishermen out for an hour or two, or day-long trips, maybe to the Skelligs or Blaskets. For shore fishermen Rossbeigh strand, is famous for bass fishing, particularly in early spring. Many places along the coast are suitable for rock fishing. The owners' library contains details of local sea fishing. For freshwater game fishermen the area abounds with lakes and rivers for salmon and brown trout. The salmon season runs from 9th February to 30th September, and trout from 15th March to 12th October. Caragh lake, set in unparalleled scenery is a 15 minute drive away. Salmon are caught here, as they are on the Upper Caragh River. The river has 9 beats.

Wonderful home, superb location, helpful owners

Leigh from Annapolis Annapolis, Maryland, USA
Review Submitted: July 8, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We rented Pairc Na Realta for a first time trip to Ireland in June 2009, and we could not have asked for a better experience. The house was beautiful, spacious, and clean. It is located in a spectacular mountain setting along the Ring of Kerry overlooking Dingle Bay. The views from every side are amazing.

Our family of 7 ranged in age from 6 to 74. The large master bedroom at one end of the house was an ideal spot for the grandparents while the other 3 bedrooms at the opposite end of the house served my husband and I and our three children perfectly. The play room with ping pong table was a huge hit with the kids, and the spacious sunroom was spectacular. It was hard to decide each day whether to take a day trip or to simply relax and enjoy this beautiful home and setting.

On our day trips, we explored Valentia Island, the Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park, Muckross House and Ross Castle. When we wanted to stay “home” we visited nearby Rossbeigh beach which was absolutely beautiful. The water was a bit cold for the adults, but the kids jumped right in! All 7 of us even enjoyed a horseback ride along the beach. It was the first time my two boys had been on a horse, and it was perfect.

Our holiday was wonderful as was this holiday rental, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that perhaps the best part of our experience was our interaction with the owners. From the minute that I made an on-line inquiry, Nick was helpful, informative and efficient. The booking and financial transactions were handled flawlessly, and Nick was instrumental in helping us to plan our many day trips. He even called during our holiday to make sure that everything was well. Also of note is the friendly welcome and advice given by Clara who showed us around the house upon our arrival. She too was willing to help us with any needs and even set up the horseback ride on Rossbeigh Strand when we inquired.

I highly recommend this rental. We are already planning our return trip! Thanks so much to Nick and Oonagh for their lovely home and for the ease in which they handled the rental process. This has truly been a positive experience.
Owner's Response: It was fun to deal with such enthusiasts, and we are truly delighted that you will be back.

Incredible Ireland Experience

Vincento Utah, USA
Review Submitted: June 30, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This was our first time to Ireland and your home made it so very welcoming and comfortable. We loved coming home every night to such a beautiful home and enjoyed many great meals cooked in the modern and well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms were spacious and had loads of storage, the table tennis room was fun for everyone, especially our 6 year old but everyone's favorite room was the new sun room with its sweeping vistas. We enjoyed the some incredible sunsets late in the June evenings when it did not get dark until 10:30 pm. The scenery surrounding the house looked like something from a pastoral painting: sea, mountains, rolling hills, grazing sheep and cows, sunsets....The setting was mesmerizing. We enjoyed all the special touches you put into our visit that made us feel so at home. Thanks Nick for offering your lovely home for our holiday to Ireland. We will never forget it.

ps. the trip to Skellig Michael was spectacular and the highlght of our trip. Thanks for recommending it.
Owner's Response: Glad you appreciated everything. We greatly enjoyed helping you decide how you spent your time, and we're pleased it all worked out well.

Fabulous House with Great Views/Location

John from Alexandria Alexandria, Virginia, USA
Review Submitted: June 28, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Had a fabulous week with our family of five at Nick and Oonagh’s beautiful house with fantastic views of Dingle Bay and the Ring of Kerry. The house is very large with four bedrooms, large living room, recently renovated kitchen with top of the line appliances and most importantly the new sunroom addition with 270 degree windows overlooking Dingle Bay and the Mountains of Kerry. They have a great gas grill outside to cook meals. In addition they have hundreds of books on Ireland, especially the Ring of Kerry

For my two grown sons and myself this was mainly a golf vacation week and this was a central location for us to play four of the most fantastic links courses in the world; Waterville (40 minutes), Ballybunion--#6 course in the world (80 minutes), Tralee (70 minutes and Dooks (10 minutes) Although not as famous as the other courses Dooks is absolutely beautiful plus the cheapest as well. Each course has fabulous clubhouse with great drinks and food and views during or after the round of golf.

Highlights of the week other than golf were: Horseback riding on Rossbeigh. Hiking on the Kerry Way direct from the house going toward Cahersiveen—one of the most beautiful hikes any of us have been on—went two hours out and two hours back—great for a picnic or sunset—incredible going thru 12 owners gates, shooing sheep and goats and their babes off the Kerry Way, seeing the way people traveled for hundreds of years, and the views of the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle and Dingle Bay were magnificent. Wish we had hiked more while we were there. Also hiked to the near beach as well as well as to Rossbeigh Beach. The boat trip to the Skelligs is not to be missed with the 6th to the 12th Century beehive huts that the monks of the monastery stayed in Skellig Michael. Almost forgot about the great day at the Lakes of Killarney and the Ross Castle, Muchrose House and the hike to the waterfalls. We needed at last two weeks to see all the beautiful sites.

Restaurants that we thought were great---Glenbeigh Hotel (close, cheap and delicious), the O’Neill’s Point at Cahersiveen looking across to Valencia Island, and Sol Y Sombra in Kilorgan—in old church (fabulous atmosphere and delicious food).

Thanks to Nick and Oonagh for letting us use their Irish getaway house and all the good advice they provided us on what to do.
Owner's Response: Thanks, John. We are really pleased that you and your family had such a good time and hope you'll come back one day. Other potential renters from the USA may wish to know that since advertising on US affiliate sites we have taken seven bookings from the USA over the last few months, and that those US guests who have stayed to date have been very appreciative of the accommodation and of the local trips and activities we've recommended.

Pairc Na Realta

Glenbeigh Dublin
Review Submitted: September 1, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
I have been holidaying in Kerry each and every year for the past 36 years. After camping on Rossbeigh Beach for about 25 years we tried a few different rental/holiday homes in and around the Glenbeigh/Killorglin area before finding Pairc Na Realta about 7-8 years ago. I should actually say re-found because I stayed in PNaR once about 20 years ago also. Although the house has changed somewhat over the years I am happy to say that it has lost none of its appeal or character. I would challenge anybody to find a more impressive feature than the large stone open fireplace which rightfully dominates the centre of the main room of the house. The recent refurbishments of the conservatory, outside barbeque area/garden and new kitchen are all excellent additions to the house. The views from the new conservatory (where we spent most of our time this year) across the mountains and down to the see are breath-taking. We spent the only fine day we got this year in the new barbeque area taking in the view and we all had a wonderful day. My 2 boys love the place and are now at an age (6 & 4) where they remember PNaR from the previous year and can't wait to get back. They spent their days this year mostly hiding and finding adventure everywhere both inside and outside the house. There both just about big enough now to play the table tennis which is good because now I might have someone to play with! They were both inconsolable as we were driving down the driveway on the start of our journey home. I couldn't finish without mentioning Nick and Oonagh's interesting book collection which grows year on year. My favourites are the books about Ireland but the collection includes all sorts of books. I passed some very relaxing hours this year reading about the Blaskets and the Skelligs.
In summary Pairc Na Realta is an excellent house for a holiday stay, irrespective of the weather. We see it as home from home and are in no doubt that...its the best house in Kerry.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for your helpful comments. Everyone is agreed that the summer weather in Kerry has been about the worst in memory this year, so it's good to hear that guests still had an enjoyable holiday.

(In fact this reviewer has already booked in for two weeks next year, and we are accordingly starting to take bookings through to the end of 2009)

Review Submitted: August 3, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
beautiful and quiet location of the house,
clean and comfortable, very large
great winter garden/sun room,

very nice and helpful landlord,
a good place to explore Kerry,
a wonderful place to let off steam and to recover,
very good care of the request from the reservation to arrival at the house
Owner's Response: As with most renters I had a great deal of contact with this reviewer before she arrived at the house, which I hope was helpful in ensuring that she and her friends enjoyed their stay.

Note to German-speaking renters : This reviewer also very kindly helped me with a German translation of a technical explanation of how equipment in the house works, which of course I'll be happy to let you have.
