Photos and Description of this County Cork holiday house 3 Bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 shower room, sauna, sleeps 6

Well built and comfortable, Rory's House at Cappaghglass is set deep in the Irish countryside. It is private but not remote. The spacious house is an attractive stone build set in its own rough land and the windows look out across the surrounding acres to a small yacht haven, Roaring Water Bay and the ocean beyond. It is 3.5 miles equidistant of two of the most popular holiday villages in West Cork: fashionable Schull; and picturesque Ballydehob.

Situated on the Mizen Peninsula, a mountainous ridge pushing into the Atlantic Ocean, famed for the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse. An area of wild beauty with rocky inlets and ocean views contrasting with lush valleys and flower filled hedgerows. The Peninsula is studded with a number of small towns and villages each with its own distinctive character. The climate is mostly mild the year around but its western seaboard location brings a little 'softness' at times. West Cork has an outstanding reputation for local produce and boasts numerous fine restaurants.

Stone steps lead from the sitting room up to a mezzanine floor tucked behind the chimney. Here there is a futon and chairs and a small TV. Because of its location television is limited and there are only two local channels available. The house is comfortable and light, the furnishings simple.

Further details for this holiday house rental in County Cork, Ireland

Rory's House at Cappaghglass is an ideal holiday home from which to explore the Mizen. Located near to the N71 it is a good base for a holiday touring Cork and Kerry. The local towns of Bantry and Skibbereen are nearby and here there are further amenities to enjoy. A cinema and leisure centre in Bantry are options if you wish to take a break from the glorious natural surroundings. Shops, bars and restaurants abound. Ballydehob is regarded as an artistic centre and was the first of the West Cork villages to paint houses bright colours. Schull is nearby, a village with a small fishing fleet and along with Crookhaven and Baltimore renowned for the wonderful sailing waters. Ferry services operate from Schull and Baltimore to Cape Clear and Sherkin Islands two of the 'Hundred Islands' in Roaring Water Bay, several of which can be seen from the house. Most towns and villages have a weekly Farmer's market where local produce can be purchased and enjoyed.

The house is quite simple but comfortable and perhaps its only drawback is the rough lane (called a bohereen or cow road) which leads up to it. But this has its own charm especially for people who do not wish to be disturbed and in the height of summer the lane is festooned with hops, sloes and blackberries and the wild flowers in the fields around are a pleasure nearly all of the year. It is pleasant to take a walk to the small haven where there is an old stone pier and at highwater it makes a wonderful swimming place within easy reach of the house. The nearest beach is a small stoney one at Audley Cove and for those who prefer to feel sand between their toes, a short drive to Barley Cove, at the end of the peninsula, has a number of large, and frequently empty sandy beaches and sparkling rollers.

Each visitor is given a comprehensive local Visitor's guide to help them find there way about the area.

Golf: Ireland is regarded as being one of the greatest golfing venues in the world. West Cork has its share but no Championship courses. Bantry and Skibbereen both have 18 hole golf courses and Schull, only 2.5 miles away has a small but challenging 9 hole links.

Other Activities: kayaking, traditional music, archaeology
