Golfing:
This part of the world is home to many fine championship 18 hole golf courses, and in many cases they afford players a golf setting of stunning views of seascape and mountain ranges. Local courses include Waterville Links - a Tiger Woods favourite and rated 5th best course in the British Isles (a mere 10 minute drive from this house), Kenmare Golf Club, Ring of Kerry Golf Club, Tralee, Killarney Golf and Fishing Club (2 courses), Beaufort (in Killarney), Dooks, Fota and Old Head. There is a range of covered/uncovered driving ranges to chose from in the general area.
Hill Walking:
The Kerry Way is the very popular, well signposted, beautiful walking way which covers 135 miles of trail through inland river valleys (created by glaciers), across mountain passes, through Ireland's finest Oak Woods, alongside Kerry's spectacular coastlines. There is a wide variety of routes which offer something for everyone, from the stroller to the experienced hill walker. Check out the Irish Tourism website for more details on the Walks and guided tours.
Watersports:
Every summer on Ballinskelligs beach visitors can avail of the services offered by Ballinskelligs Water Sports - kayaking, canoeing, and surfing equipment all available to hire and lessons also available. Addiitonally at the pier on stunningly beautiful Valentia island there is a wonderful summer watersports school offering kayaking, canoeing and a water trampoline with slide - accessed by raft! It has to be seen.
Access Valentia from the house by heading back to Caherciveen and using the drive-on ferry from Renard quay or turn left out the gates and head for Portmagee where you can drive across the bridge to Valentia - this route is the smaller lesser known 'Ring of Kerry' and you will thoroughly enjoy the views of the Skelligs, the amazing mountain hugging route, with sheep included, and the Skelligs Chocolate Factory at the beautiful St Finians Bay which you just can not pass without loading up on delicious chocolates - a very family friendly factory!
