The Mizen Peninsula is at Ireland's most south-westerly point and is a rugged and beautiful area with many islands off the coastline, which can be discovered via ferries from Schull and Baltimore. There are many ancient sites with stone rings, castles and wedge tombs as well as mountains, sandy beaches and rocky coves.
Dolphins, Minke whales and seals are regularly sighted from the cliffs around the Mizen. If fresh fish is your fancy, there are many options: Boats can be hired in Schull to catch your own Mackerel or Pollack - we have found the waters around Schull to be teeming with these fish in Summer. Alternatively a wide range of locally caught prawns, lobsters and other fish can be bought direct from the fishermen as they land them at a number of local harbours.
